Went in for a Shorkie came out with a ...
 

2 year old male pure bred yorkie! He is a catch! He gives five and LOVES to play. He hasn't been with us for 24 hours and he is already warmed up. We went over to Utah yesterday and the lady called and told me she sold her shorkie:(. But then another lady called and said she had also sold her pure bred yorkie pup but had the mom and dad available. He isn't neutered but I plan on fixing that in the near future) We met up with her and picked the male. He was younger and alot more of our style. (playful with the kitties) His name is "Bubba" I think want to change it. He responds to it though.
The Bad:
:eek::eek:He is sooo skinny! I can feel his back bone. He is bigger like a tea pot but I haven't gotten a chance to weight him yet.
And I think that's why he is food agrressive.:(
Last night when my cat was eating his food (because my cat is lazy and can't walk down flight of stairs to his own food and apprarently he thinks it's kitty treats:rolleyes:) Bubba saw him and my cat hissed and Bubba growled and took a little lunge. (but I had "Bubba" on the leash so he didn't go far.)
What can I do to help him? He went straight for his food like he was affraid my cat would eat it all before he got a chance at it(my cat probably would:rolleyes:) Will he get over his agressive behavior with his food if he just eats for a while?
I think the lady was trying her best to keep up with the economy and just couldn't afford to feed them that much??? Just a guess.
He is a little affraid to be left alone. He marked his territory once already but I told him "no" and took him outside then I came back in to clean up the mess and he started barking. Will he get used to being left alone once he gets used to us?
He had a really bad haircut and his nails were over grown so my dad has him at the groomers right now. I'll take pictures when he comes back :)
Bubba doesn't know what stairs are either. He just looks at them and tries to go over the couch to a different room. Got any tips for his spearation fears, his food agression, and his in ability to use stairs?
He is really a sweet dog and my family jsut loves him.

Maybe you could put your kitty's food up high or something? Where the kitty can get it, but he can't?

Congratulations on your new yorkie! I have a teapot too! LOL I'm not sure about the food aggression, but maybe he will get better once he sees he will get his fill on a regular basis.:) I hope others have more helpful advice, but congratulations and I know he will get calmed down and be a great doggie for you!

Yes he has just been fantastic! I'll have to see what my cat will do to get to the dog food. Do you think his separation anxiety will calm down a little to? Just because we are knew and he thinks we will leave him? Oh and I forgot to mention that he does fantastic in a car for three hours!

It may be just me, but it seems that unaltered males are usually thinner. All my dogs are of rather healthy (ok so one is OVERweight) weights, then Diesel has always been a rail.

oh congrads... it is all new to him I'm sure he will get better...

I believe that once he is altered.. he will gain weight.. also will be much easier to train..
Please post some pictures.. as for the food thing.. I bought a new male and he acts like he is strarving all the time when the treats some along.. not with food.. but I am not sure he got a lot of treats.. so he gets over anxious..

your little guy sounds precious! congradulations . What I am thinking he has been somewhat neglected. having the long nails , overgrown hair, thin , and behaving very hungry, + the separation anxiety . He may not have had the social skills , or enough attention in his life . Now that he does he is not going to want to lose it ! He will be fine! Just give him time to settle in to his new home. I agree that placing that cat food up high , and not allowing your kitty access to the dog food will help the food agression. Especially to a dog who has not been fed so well .
He is not use to stairs, and does not know what to do with them, just yet. My Suzi does not go down stairs either. Which is a good thing. We live in a upstairs APT, and I do not want her going downstairs from outside. YAY for that miracle.
But in your case, I am sure your new boy will become comfortable as time goes by. He just came to a new home yesterday. Everything is so new. I would take him to your vet for a checkup . Just to make certain he is healthy. It looks like he was used for breeding only and not as a family pet. I am so happy he is going to be much better now , and content . :D

On the ACA registration it says she got him on 6/18/09. But maybe she just did the paper work? I'm definatley positive she only used him for breeding. He has a good temperment, I think his first owner had him as a pet since he does high five. Is it normal for him to not bark except for being alone?

I think he is experiencing separation anxiety . He does not want to be left alone. Poor little one . He wants to be with his new family, always ! He needs time to adjust. I am sure he will come around.

If you really feel that he is aggressive with his food, you could google. I did and came up with lots of information. I have one who gobbles his food and I am going to search for a way to calm him down. Congratulations on your new furbaby. And blessings for getting him out of a breeding situation. ~Joanne`
