How to do topknots on puppy? Once the topknot is in, Toby doesnt even notice it, but its a bit of a nightmare getting it in. I am just putting latex bands in (not bows-they are too noticable at the minute), but as they are so fine, and the top knot is so small, the band needs wrapped around it a good few times. This is when he starts to paw at his head and pull away. I dont want him to hate this, but do I just persevere? At the minute as soon as I reach for his head he gets up and moves! |

1 Attachment(s) Honestly stick with it. Tia doesn't mind it at all now , shes almost a year old. I say im going to do your hair now and she goes to the chair and sits there.Sometimes she picks her own bow lolAttachment 282898 |
I started with a little topknot as soon as Pixie came home with me at 14 weeks and put one in everyday since...now she is so used to it, that as soon as i touch her topknot she lays down and puts her little head down for me and waits patiently till i'm done..its sooo sweet! even her groomer finds this amusing!:p so the trick is to be patient, gentle and consistent and your baby will accept it as part of her everyday routine.;) |
Lol at least he doesnt mind it once you get it in!!! Ella will let me get it in but then she goes and rubs her head into the couch til it comes off. Ugh lol |
Both of my girls have topknots. The problem I have keeping them in is that my boys find it amusing to play with their sisters' topknots. |

I'm not sure how long your little guys topknot is at the moment, but he might be pawing at it because you are making it too tight. I know when they have hardly any hair up there when puppies it is hard to make a little topper, but try to make the point that you are wrapping the band around at least 1/2 inch to an inch away from his scalp, keep your thumb or finger pressed on his scalp as a measure of how high you will wrap the band. Does that make sense? And yeah, I agree with all, keep at it, be patient, and soon he will be letting you do it without any issues You might try putting the band in from behind him instead of reaching for his head from in front of him, that way he may be more receptive to letting you mess with his hair. It will get better :) |
