I am a new yorkie mommy and grandma (our little girl just had two pups this morning) we are taking them to get their tales docked on Friday. What we were told that if you don't do it it can cause back problems when they get older. :aimeeyork

Why don't you leave their tails on, they look cute both ways but the thought of them being chopped off makes me feel ill.
Don't bash me for that but it does.

I have NEVER heard of a dog, with a tail, having back problems due to having a full tail. :confused: Think of all of the different breeds that have tails...how is a Yorkie any different? I am truly not trying to be rude, but would love to know who told you this. You do realize that their tail is light...no more heavy for them to carry around than their heads holding their ears up. :p ;)

WHAT?! lol. That's just not true.
If that were the case, ALL breeds of dogs would not have tails.
Just leave their tails :)

Also, aren't you supposed to do it when they're like a day or two old? Wouldn't it hurt them too bad to wait until Friday?

that is an old wives' tale. I would NEVER dock if I had that option. Many other countries have banned it because it is unnecessary. Please reconsider.

Right on Baby! :thumbup: In fact Whole Dog Journal did an article that it is harmful to dogs to dock their tails.

I love tails left on Yorkies and do not see any reason to dock them.

My Trixie has a tail. We call her "taily girl" Love it She keeps us cool in the summer :D
