tipping groomers Hi everyone, this may seem like a silly question, but how much do you tip your groomer, if at all? I've taken Buddy to the groomer several times and always wonder if I should tip 20% of the cost of the groom. Buddy had a bad groom once, but my fiance' insisted that we should still tip her what we normally give, even though it was a bad haircut. I didn't agree with him. So I was wondering what everyone else does regarding giving your groomers tips. |
I usually tip my Groomer $10 per dog ($20). She always does them while I wait and doesn't ever do anything that I don't ask her to do. She knows my dogs and likes them, so I have peace of mind. |
I tip the 20%. |
Sookie, your baby and mine could be twins, i really had to take a double take:aimeeyork Quote:

My groomer owns the shop, and she will charge me $40 to $50. And $10.00 per dog just for nails, if that is all I do. So should I give her a tip?? I never have because she is the owner. :idontknow:idontknow |
If it's the owner I don't, but if it's not I tip according to how pleased I am with the cut.. |
We also tip our groomer $10.00. Our groomer works in the back of a doggie Boutique and is very kind and gentle to Bella. That in itself makes all the difference to me. |
I give $5 tip and it costs $25. This is only for trim and ear cleaning (I give him a bath and blow dry him myself). I once didn't give tip because it wasn't the groomer that always does him. I guess she was busy on that day but didn't tell me some one else was doing it. Anyways he looked so ugly I almost cried so I didn't tip her.. I mean tip is for doing a good job right?? |
for those who don't tip the owner of the shop i give you something to consider: In the shop i just started grooming at we pool our tips. two groomers, and a bather split all the tips from the day. i know of a lot of shops that do this. So if you do not tip the owner just because she owns the shop you are also not tipping the bather/dryer, or the other groomer who may have helped in some way. also some shops have a head groomer or shop manager who takes the dog in. you may think that this is the person grooming your dog, but it may not be. make sure you know who is actually grooming your dog. If the shop you go to just has the one groomer and no other help then that's a different story. Oh and before i became a groomer i always tipped $10, same as i do for my own hair stylist. |
My grooming bill is $70 for 2 dogs and I tip $20 |
The owner of the shop grooms Lexi. I tip $5 on a $25 grooming. |
I tip 20%. If I am not happy, usually 10-15%. |
Okay, I feel like a horrible person now. I've never tipped a dog groomer before! We always cut my previous pup's hair at home. Addie is the first pup I've had groomed, and I've only had her hair cut twice. The first time was at PetSmart. Where do you even tip there? They just give you a bill you take up front, and I don't think there's any place to put a monetary tip. The second time was at this grooming place called Pink Poodle. I saw a carafe with some cash in it, but there was only change and a few dollars in it, so I thought tipping at a groomer was like tipping at Starbucks: nice to do it but not really required. |

I get my poodle groomed at Petco and sometimes I tip and sometimes I don't because they won't give you cash back and you can't add any extra on your credit card and to be honest some times I just don't have any cash with me. |

I feel like one because I've never tipped a groomer. I just never thought about it before. I don't know why ... |
I didn't tip the groomer the last time I was there... I felt bad but the cut itself was $50 and I honestly didn't have ANY cash on me and they wouldn't take cash out from my card, etc... so I felt bad, but at the same time, I don't even pay $50 for MY hair, lol. |
My general rule of thumb, is that if they are in the service industry, I tip them. A quality tip is a sure way to have the staff remember you and do there best for you and your pets. |
My daughters and I always appreciate tips from satisfied customers but we don't expect them.:) |
OH MY! I've never even thought to tip a groomer! Whoopsee... then again, I've never really been happy with a groomer. |
This thread is helpful, so obviously it wasn't a stupid Q OP :) I have only taken Cohen to a groomer twice and it is a lady who just runs it out of her house. She only does an okay job, but my breeder recommended her to me which is why I took him there. I didn't tip her...but I was confused about it. I knew that I tip my hairdresser, but I wasn't sure it was custom to tip dog groomers or not. I'll def tip her next time and I feel awful now. :( |

But I'm from the UK, so we don't have a huge tipping culture... anyone else here from the UK who knows whether or not I should be tipping? |
