Hi Becky!:wavey: Welcome to YT!! :yorkietal |

Hi and welcome :wavey: How wonderful that you have chosen to rescue. I usually let them drag the leash around the house a little just so they get used to it and then outside I lure them with tiny chicken pieces until they get the hang of it. If you have another dog that walks well thats always good encouragement to keep moving forward. Post pics your your new angel when you get a chance :) |

:wavey: Hi Beckie and Pixie!! :welcome4: to Yorkie Talk! There are a lot of caring people here. God bless you for rescuing your baby. I can't offer much help as far as teaching your little one to walk on leash as I am still working with my Abby and leash walking. j Just be consistent. I know there are many others on here that will be able to help you much more than I can. |

Congratulations, and thanks for getting a rescue. I hope that you post pics soon :) |

Welcome to the group! :) |

Congrats on your wonderful new addition and welcome to YT! If your little one is not "leash trained" at this point, I would suggest starting off by using a harnass for training. Many dogs will struggle and fight against a leash/collar when they are being walked/trained for the first time. Struggling against a collar could cause damage to your little one's neck. :( Good luck! |

welcome, I am new here also, i have a 3 month oldyorkie and he does good on the leash unless he wants to go where i dont then we have a struggle....lol |

Welcome Beckie I'm still struggling to get ours to walk on a leash consistently, so I'm hardly one to ask, but I would suggest: 1. Buy a harness (one that goes around her body). NEVER walk a Yorkie by a collar as this can damage their throat, i.e. "collapsed trachea" 2. Put the harness on for wearing just around the house, so she may get used to it. If you slap it on and drag her outside for a walk, I think this freaks them out a bit 3. Patience, praise and reward (treats) when they walk well, take it slow, NEVER drag them or pull them if you become impatient. I have to say We have not walked our pups in a while, maybe that's wrong but it is so brutally hot here in Texas this summer (I'm sure it's hot where you are too !!!!!!) That we just let them out in the backyard in the grass in the evening a bit......it's still 90 degrees here @ 9:00 @ night !!!! doesn't cool off too much, I'm afraid. But I'm not complaining !!!! God Bless Texas :D |
