New baby on the way! Hi all! I am happy to announce that Winston will be a big brother in August. Our new baby will be coming home August 10th. We are naming him Wylie. I am so excited! I am a little worried about Winston though. He is our baby. I am a housewife so Winston gets 100% of my attention all the time. We dont do anything apart. I got him right after I got married and moved 200 miles away from my family and friends. He really is my best friend. I hate being away from him as much as he hates me being away. How am I going to handle the situation with the new puppy? I know Wylie is going to be a very welcome addition to our family but Im a little worried about Winston's feelings in the beginning. Any advice on bringing Wylie home and making him feel welcome while still making sure Winston knows that he hasnt been replaced? Also, if you have been in this situation, how long did it take your pups to be comfortable with each other? |
I had "Harley" for eight years before I got "Scooter". It took about 2 weeks before Harley would have anything to do with him, now they are best of friends. Then I added another, and have two more on the way, delivery sometime in early August, for a total of five! Introduce them on neutral territory like outside in the yard. Feed your oldest one first, then put the new one's food down, for @ a week. (lets the new guy know where he's at in the pack order, and makes the older one feel more secure) Good Luck! |
Thanks! I have never had more than one dog at a time. I still cant believe we are getting another puppy. When we got Winston, my husband was not happy. For the first few weeks, he wouldnt have anything to do with the pup and kept asking me if i could take him back. Now he is crazy about Winston and it was actually my husbands idea to get another! I am getting the new puppy from a lady I have known my whole life. We went to look at the pups and my husband wanted to get 2 of them. I had to put my foot down for now but I have a feeling we will be getting another soon! |
My 3 are all close as can be, when ones not there, the other 2 worry and wait and when they are reunited, they all play and wrestle and growl. Its so funny. They weren't too happy when a "new one" came in but after a few days and a few growls they all found their places in the pack. ' best wishes on your new bundle of joy!!! :p |
We have just added Ryder to our family in March. It was such an awkward decision. I wanted another puppy but I too am a housewife (while going to school fulltime) but I spent all my time undivided with Roxie (my husband is a truck driver over the road, gone 5 days home for two). Anyways, I tried to make things as even as I could. Roxie was a little unsure and didnt want a whole lot to do with Ryder right away, but I made sure that they both had their own things- we basically have two of everything, that way Roxie had her things that she was used to and Ryder would have his own things. It has taken Roxie a long time to get used to the fact that Ryder is here to stay but everyday I see more of her old self coming out. Try to spend some time with Winston brushing him and only giving him his own time with you- but then do the same for the puppy- I call this momma time and whoever gets on my lap first gets about 15-20 minutes just with me, they look forward to this so much I do it in the evening and it has really helped them both. CONGRATS and best wishes on your new pup! I cant wait to read more! |
