more frustration this weekend, i was eating a pickle and lexi grabbed the whole pickle out of my hand and put the whole thing in her mouth. i got so scared, dont know if they can have pickles let alone a whole dill... anyway i tried to get it out of her mouth and she went crazy on me... biting me and moving her head back and forth, finally i just started smacking her face to let her open her mouth.. shes going crazy this dog. she is just not listening to me.. i can never get anything out of her mouth...i say bad girl.. and she answers me back and barks at me.. i want to ooh just , just, never mind...give her such a spankin.. please any advise will be great cause im not doing so well.. |
I would practice the "give" command....I should really practice it more but Maximus has the general idea..although it takes him a sec or so longer if he really likes what he has :D ....what you do is drop something appetizing and hold out something even more appetizing while saying give..when they let go of the original thing give them the treat...repeat this and give the treat every other time..repetiton is key and then you can practice in different settings. I for one never realized how much people litter until I had Maximus and he is constantly picking up dirty crap off the street so we go through this about every morning!! |
i was telling lexi, drop it ! drop it ! i just dont get it |
Sorry I don't really have any advice but just wanted to let you know you're not alone. Yesterday Samson was chomping on something that he found in the yard.....here it was gum!! :animal36 So there he was just chewing on some gum and he was not about to give it up. Finally after a few minutes of trying to grab it out of his little clenched teeth I was able to get it out. Then a couple days ago I see him chewing on something that had grass stuck on it so I'm there trying to grab it out of his mouth and when I finally got it........it was some other dogs poo!!!!!! How gross! I had it all over my hand. I have been trying to teach him to let go when we play with his toys so maybe he'll get a little better at that over time and it will work with other things he gets in his mouth too. ;) |

You also have to understand that a dog's social hiearchy is strickly based on "control". Who has control of toys, food, door, and things including what they find on the floor/ground. If she thinks she is the alpha dog then she is not going to relinquish control of her item without a fight, because to do so will be to give up control of her position in the "pack". That is why she will fight you for it! (growling/biting). So you may also have to re-evaluate your role in the relationship and make some modifciations to re-gain control. |
Have you tried basic obediance training? It is really fun and gratifying to go and get your dog to listen and do things that you did not think were possible. These dogs are so smart and can be very stubborn....I know my silky girl is very stubborn and wants to only do what she wants to do not what I want her to do....training helped alot. My boy Remmy was a good listener his problem is being social with other dogs. When I tell him drop it...he automatically drops what ever is in his mouth. Chris |
what are the basic training hints ? is there a site that can teach me ? or you guys can advise me. |
I use the command "drop it" with my guys, and it works well. I trained them to drop it, by giving them something else when they did, now they just drop it without any treats. Hope this helps. |
