Bringing home a female yorkie to our 9 month old male Okay I need some advice! We currently own a beautiful 9 month old Yorkie Preston, and we are getting our 8 week old female in 3 weeks. Preston isn't neuted because he is starting in shows soon, and nor will the female be because she is showing too. What is the best way to introduce her? Preston is left alone for a few hours a day, will they need to be seperated? If you have any advice could you please let me know!! |
It depend on your dog's temper. Sometime it take a few days, sometime it's love at first sight. I would start by bringing the new puppy inside in a crate and let the your dog smell it. If they fight for food. Feed your dog first. Do not let them together if you aren't around for now. Walking them together is the best way for a pack of dog to bond quickly. Good luck and let us know how it goes. |
Thank you very much for the advice! Preston has a pen set up, so we are going to see how she goes in there after their introduction. |
Make sure you introduce them on neutral territory to start off on the right foot. Also, I'm not sure if I read your post correctly but make sure you wait until 12 weeks to take the new puppy home:) Good luck! |
I was always told to walk them together first... good luck and keep us updated =) |
I will definately take that advice, we are going to introduce them together in our garage as its under cover (it's winter here) and Preston is not allowed in there. I would normally wait until 12 weeks however they are saying 8 weeks they want her to go, so I will see what happens. We have the essentials (time wise, obviously not mother dog) for her to be home at an earlier age. |
