Saw something odd in the FAQ: Chocolate? I was re-reading the FAQ when I noticed this odd bit: Quote:

http://chemistry.about.com/gi/dynami...chocolate.html From the formula I see above, 1 chocolate bar could kill a two pound Yorkie, and two bars could do in a 5 pounder. Scary huh? I felt like the FAQ kinda understated the danger of chocolate and made it seem like it's an option. Chocolate of any kinds should be strictly avoided in my opinion, ESPECIALLY in smaller dogs! |
Thanks for posting this.. I have heard the same thing.. I wouldnt ever take the chance with any chocolate.. |
I think the FAQ just addressed the fact that some people have given their Yorkies chocolate with no ill effects as that question has been asked before here. Some people still do give their Yorkies chocolate, but I would never take that risk myself. Maybe the link you supplied can be added to the FAQ too. :) |
Always have and will continue to give small amounts of chocolate to my boys. I had my first yorkie til he was 18 years old and he got milk chocolate in small amounts his entire life and a healthier dog you could not find. My two yorkies get a small amount of milk chocolate a couple of times a week and are happy and healthy. I have asked several vets and they told me small amounts of MILK chocolate will not hurt them. I will continue to give it to mine, but that is my choice. |
With all the safer doggie treats to give I am just not wanting to take the risk sharing my chocolate with Schatzie. This time I feel it's ok for me to be selfish towards this and not share!! LOL! :p Besides, Yorkie's are sweet enough as it is, why would they ever need any chocolate? They just couldn't possibly become any sweeter!! :p |

I do not even allow them to eat "chocolate flavored" treats because once they know that it tastes good they will be tempted and maybe try to get into some that is put away but within the reach of a smart and clever yorkie. As always, it is everyone's choice as to what they feed their own dogs. Here is a link to another thread where this issue was discussed. It has some good citations to internet sites.http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...ight=chocolate |
