My poor pnut has been licking his bum since yesterday evening!!! I am going to take him to get his anals squezzed out when I get off work today but I feel sooo bad for my little pumpkin!! His little bum is all red :confused: Do you guys know of anything that might help him until 3:30??

Apply warm wet compresses on his bum, for about 6 minutes.
This will help release the impacted anal glands, and may give him a
little comfort.

Poor little fella. You can put hydrocortisone cream or diaper cream on it.

Cool I will try that...I have him with me at work today :) I hope that at least gives him a little relief...my poor little guy. Its so crazy how much we loves these little guys to wear something small like his bum being all red cuz his anals can drive a mom nuts and feel so bad for him :(

Besides the anal glands giving him a problem, sometimes the area is made raw by trimming too close with a razor, licking can intensify the problem, and hydrocortisone cream or diaper cream helps with this, as well.

Hey Nancy...glad you said this. Sophie's bottom looked a bit more shaved than normal and she's been trying to get her nose back there. I assumed it was because it felt "weird" for her. But maybe it's more than that. I'll have to take a closer look when I get home. Geez, if it's not carrots with poop, I'm looking at my dogs bum with a magnifying glass! The messes I get into hanging out with you! LOL

My DIL has been using the same groomer for years, but one occasion the razor left a nasty razor burn. The vet said that it's very easy for this area to become infected, if the skin is raw, and the dog got a bad infection, so I no longer use clippers for Joey, I just do a scissors cut.

That sounds like it could happen very easily. A lot of bacteria finds it's way back there.

How safe is the cream if they try to lick it? Just wondering if it will hurt them.

OK Guys.. Thank you for all your support I took pnut in to have the vet look at his bum bum..He expressed his anals and said that they were full..He said to keep an eye on him he should stop licking his bum and the redness will go away! yeayyyy!!!! I feel so much better now!!
