yorkie hair I have a 6 mo. Old puppy and his hair is black and tan but not real long, how old are they before they get a full coat. |
4 Attachment(s) As you are learning out there is a lot to yorkies to learn. Not all yorkies will grow a nice long coat - depends on its genes and quality. You need to get a good book about yorkies and read up on them. A perfect book is The Complete Yorkshire Terrier by Gordon and Bennett. Yorkies goes through many changes and it takes time for the ones that will grow coat to grow it. It takes at least a year to get the hair to the floor and that is determined by the quality of their coat as well as the care you give it. Here is a photo of my girl. She is exactly 6 months for you to see. The one of her standing is when she was 5 months, the rest were just taken last week (6 months of age). Do you have a photo of your yorkie to show us? |
2 Attachment(s) Here is a photo of my other girl. She is 2 years old. I just took these yesterday of her. I love the last one of her shaking her head. Amazing how long their muzzle hair can get. She looks lighter in the last shot since she was in the direct hot sun rays. The first shot she was somewhat shaded by our pool fence and blocking some of the sun direct rays. It was hot yesterday, even when took the photos around 7 PM. |
thank you for your reply |
I think that you got alot of great info already from topknot:) I just wanted to add that it helps alot to keep your puppy's coat really clean and conditioned when your trying to grow them out. when their hair is too dry or dirty it can cause the hair to get mats and or break. Brushing a dry coat will cause breakage too and can make it seem like your not getting much growth. I spray a little conditioner in first and then use a pin brush on my babies, and a metal comb on their faces. You might already know this but I thought I would add it just in case:) I know some people who's coat didn't reach the ground till the dog was almost two. I would love to see pics of your baby! |

Conditioner Can you tell me a good spray conditioner to use and do you leave it on |
conditioner I, personally, like to use Ice on Ice and Pet silk as leave in spray conditioner. Some times if i am out of my leave in I will just dilute one of my rinse out conditioners, my favorite of those is Coat Handler's it is a 10-1 so I only need a little bit of conditioner to water. Everyone usually has a different mix of products that they like best. Alot depends on the type of coat that your yorkie has:) |
