Hi I am a new member Hi I am new to Yorkie Talk. I have read several posts in the past and found it to be a very interesting and informative site. I have been involved with a yorkie rescue and remain a silent participant at this time. I have had yorkies in my life for the past 28 years. I currently have 4 yorkies. Three of the four are all rescues. I have one boy that is hairless with the exception of his tan markings all the darker color is bald. The vet says he has a double dilution of the blue gene. He love to wear clothes so it is not much of a problem. I must say though since I have been feeding raw over the past month and a half this little guy is actually growing fur. His breath smells better and the tearing and staining from his eyes has decreased. His main problem is that he demands attention all the time and can get over bearing. His name id Kojak. HAs anyone had this issue? any ideas how to deal with this. All my other dogs love attention but do not demand it. Winston I purchased from a breeder 13 years ago. Poor baby has lost all of his teeth but still does quite well on canned and rwa diet. He two has has what they call leather ear ( hair does not grow on the ears and they become thick and leathery) since on raw he started to grow hair on his ears. Something is to be said for raw. I was really skepitcal at first but I am really glad that I tried it. I use Stella's and Chewy"s. THey test all of thier food and it can be tracked. I will continue in next message http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/ima...c/progress.gif |
lmperez contiuned My last two are little girls 2.5 and 3.0 lbs. The 3 lb Tessa was born with a hair lip. She is precious and a smart as a whip. SHe is a true terrier. She is not a true rescue because her breeder was going to keep her until I came along. We went to Tennesse to pick her up. SHe is in training to work as a therapy social dog. I just need time for her to settle down a bit before getting real serious with training. I think she is just about ready. My last little girl was rescued from a animal shelter located several hours from my home.. Her owners turned her in. The shelter told me she had an issue with her back leg. I thought luxating patella no problem we can get this taken care of and she should be good. I made arangements to have her transported and when she arrived this poor baby was dehydrated, and very thin. She was unable to hold herself upright. THe vet said she had some neurological damage and sent her to a specialist. The Neurologist thought hydrocephulas and suggested an MRI ($1500.00) but felt that there was little hope for her. I refused to believe him could not afford an MRI but fed her by hand and loved her. I did water therapy and rolled her on a ball and she started to get stronger and started to respond to us. I took her out of her pen and placed on the living room floor to be amazed how she could get around. SHe started to eat and drink on her own and started to use pee pads. She stopped peeing in her bed and would bark at us for attention. I had her re-evaluated and this dr said she has a condition that is similar to cererbral palsy in humans. The motor center of the brain is under developed which monitors her coordination, so she is unable to stand or walk. She scoots around and flips herself like a fish out of water. She has a tendency to move in circles. The Dr said she is not in any pain and will not get any worse. She is expected to have a long and full life. He said she appears to be very happy and contient and as long as I am willing to care for her and provide her with a good quality of life he sees no reason to take that away from her. She is a little spit fire of a thing. Her name is Princess and we just adore her. AS a matter of fact she seems to be getting much stronger and is able to compensate for her lack of coordination and gets from point A to point B in no time. She continues to amaze me. I hope to have her evaluated to see if she can use a doggie wheelchair now that she is stronger. Well I guess that is all for now. |
