Barking already, Help! :p Bailey is only 10 weeks old but at 6 am this morning when I was up with him and had just put him back in his Xpen he started barking:eek: He is quite loud for such a little squirt! I immediately got a can and put coins in it and when I shook it the little bugger barked even harder:rolleyes: I really wouldn't care if I didn't live in an apt building where the least amount of noise is complained about:rolleyes: Any other suggestions to cut down on barking? I'm worried that he will get worse..and of course louder!:eek: Thanks for any suggestions everyone:) |
Try squirting him with a water bottle and tell him no barking |

I don't like to do it, but I muzzle Buster & Bailey if they get out of control. You can buy little muzzles that fit them. We usually put them on just for a few minutes & they will calm down. Do not leave your little one unattended though if you muzzle him, so that may not be a solution for you. My brother recently got one of those ultrasonic indoor bark-stopper things...but I don't know much about them, just that they produce a high pitch sound when it registers a dog's bark that only a dog can hear. My brother said it works great (they have a little baby at home & had to keep the dogs quiet). Good luck!! |

Good luck- try this! My two are noisy as well, they bark to talk to me about what they need and they do it a lot when people are coming and going. We also live in an apartment complex so I can understand your situation. With Roxie I didnt want her to be afraid of the water bottle because I use it when I brush her. I did this and it works if you have time. I put her in the other room in the xpen and then I walked around doing my normal stuff, as soon as she made a peep I came out and made a noise she stopped, I went back to doing my stuff, and she started again, I heard that first hint and corrected it again she stopped. It is all repetion and being consistent- that noise is not allowed. The breed are known for barking and yet my two are very quiet for the breed they are more of a barker than other poochies. |
I can relate to the barking thing Penny barks at everything! When the air conditioner comes on, it clicks. When the air conditioner goes off, it clicks. When it clicks, Penny barks for about 2 minutes and it seems like 2 hours. Penny barks at the squirrels, the birds, wasps, other dogs, any strange noise, bugs on the floor etc. We are fortunate that we do not live in an apartment. :rolleyes: |

I think what you said is right--he has just discovered "Hey! I can make noise, and it's fun!" When he gets a little older his barking will probably indicate that he needs something. I live in an apartment complex and everytime someone is in the hallway Cohen goes nuts. It's so embarrassing! But once when my dad was down here he said that he thinks it's great that Cohen does that because he is just being a watch dog! Guess you gotta take the bad with the good. |
My Max was really small, 2 lb 9 oz at 14 months, and he would bark to get the attention of the other dogs. But the cutest was when the dog food bowl or water bowl was empty, he would really let me have it. Standing on his back legs, just telling me off. He would also do that when he felt it was bedtime. He'd just come right up to me and let me know it was bedtime! I sure miss that. :( |
Wow!!! He must be very vocal!! Little Miss Gracie has only barked a handful of times since we have had her-less than two weeks. We didn\'t think she even could bark at first!!!! isn\'t it funny how they are just like children-all so different! |

I jumped out of bed, pulled on my robe, ran out to the kitchen, grabbed Emily and put on her leash, turned off the alarm system and ran outdoors with her. I just assumed she needed to go. She just stood there and looked at me. The next day I was outside fertilizing my garden and looked down and saw tire tracks. I live on a corner and apparently during the night someone had driven in from the side street, through my garden, and around my house out to the street in front. Pretty obviously, my twelve week old dog had more brains than I. It never occurred to me that Emily heard something outside. Since then, when she barks, I listen.:aimeeyork:aimeeyork:aimeeyork |
