How did yours adapt? In March we added Ryder to our family. Roxie has always been around dogs (my parents and my in laws). She is spoiled and has always been our girl, she was lonely when we got married and moved so Ryder was a great playmate for her. They have a blast together and really enjoy each other. Roxie is very spunky at almost 3 she has more energy than Ryder he is easy going and just plain easy! Anyways, Roxie loves to play but she has taken the last three months to get used to him and each day I feel that she is more herself. Just wondered what your experiences have been with adding to the family? |
Well it took Phoebe ( my first yorkie) time, but now she is doing great loving her sisters, I think it help that she was potty train, so she kind train the other two lol;) |

There has got to be more! Who else is out there with two or more? How was your experience bringing in a newbie? |
It has been a week now since we added a new baby shih tzu to our family. Miley is now only going on 9weeks. and 2lbs. Suzi is our 15month old yorkie. She is not very thrilled at all ! However tolerates her. Suzi seems very interested in her , but also jumpy around Miley. If Miely makes sudden moves Suzi backs away, but if miely is calm then Suzi is curious about her. Suzi is submissive , and lets Miley plays with her toys, eat out her food bowl , and chew her bones. I felt bad when miley chewed Suzi's bone. Suzi just pawed at miley, but as soon as Miley left the bone Suzi saw her chance and took the bone away, hiding it! :p I have been trying hard to make certain that Suzi has extra attention , love, and petting right now. Suzi can jump on the couch, and bed, sleep on the bed where Miley can't. Miley is just too little. this makes it still a special time for Suzi and I to be together. LIttle Miley is fearless of Suzi, and she is just adorable. I can't believe as tiny as she is she has attitude ;) I am also very surprised that Suzi is passive around arounf little miley and lets her get away with everything . I feel lucky that Suzi has been so nice to her, and none aggressive. YAY for Suzi :D |
I have been lucky having had my pom (RIP) as an only dog for 8 years, I brought in Cali then Pixie then Dixie (RIP) then Roxie and they all got along right away. PIxie and Roxie are from the same breeder and are very close. Cali is more aloof but they all snuggle together. |

When we first got Maggie, Ginger (our 5 yr old Yorkie and princess of the house) wanted nothing to do with her even though Maggie tried relentlessly to play with Ginger. Well, Ginger finally got used to Maggie and now they are almost inseperable and play together all the time. |

I adopted Josh when Daisy was five years old. Before adopting Josh, Daisy got all of my love and attention. When Josh first came home, she would shake, run away from him, or jump in my lap. It saddens me to see Daisy act that way towards Josh. I wanted them automatically to be best friends. I am not sure if Daisy was afraid or jealous of the new dog. Josh was never affected by Daisy's behavior. He loved following her around the house to play with her, especially when she ran away from him. I ignored Daisy's behavior towards the new puppy and included her in all the activities involving the puppy. Before I knew it, Daisy was peeping in Josh's playpen in the morning ready to play with her best friend. Daisy's and Josh's personalities are so different, but they remain best friends. Josh is playful while Daisy is laidback. Both of them are affectionate little dogs. :) |
I was very fortunate that when I got Wicket, Twinkle took to him straight away and played very gently with him because she could tell he was so much smaller than her. When we got Kaddie (not a yorkie), Wicket was fine, but it took Twinkle a bit of getting used to (maybe because it was another female, or maybe because of the huge size difference)....Now all three of them get on wonderfully and play together great - usually with the yorkies climbing all over the mastiff! xxx |
