Peeing like a boy! My 18 month old female follows our 7 month old male around and pees exactly where he does. However, the problem is she pees with her leg up! Why is she doing this; is she marking her territory? It's kind of amusing, but a little bizarre. |

Zoe squats but does it with one leg up too.. she does the same when she poos too! LOL |
hahaha:D that is so funny, back in my country I had a small female mutt, she always peed like that, till her last day, we used to laugh so bad, she was just perfect tough, just a little weird:p |
Thats really precious! Its funny, my male yorkie pees like a girl yorkie. I think its just a matter of preference. |
i think its natural. my neighbor has a female collie who does the same thing. ill bet its not abnormal for yorkies either. |
Bella Mia does the same exact thing. It is hilarious to watch. She poops normal but always since she was a puppy she hikes her leg way up there to pee. I think she doesnt like the grass touching her little whoo whoo. :D |
Ramsey's a leg lifter....she doesn't want it running down the side of her leg, I guess. |
Two of my girls are leg lifters :D One is a marker outside, the young one just doesn't like to get dirty :p |
The adrenal glands makes testosterone in both males and females, the testes makes the bulk of testosterone in males, but even after neutering the adrenal gland pumps out a little, and the amount varies greatly between dogs. Testosterone is said to be the hormone responsible for marking. |

Penny is a partial lifter. She does it when the grass is wet! If the ground is dry she'll pee nice and ladylike, but when it is damp she hikes one leg up. It's really cute. |
George squats when using pee pad but lifts his leg when outside, I thought it was markin outside but he has had his op so can't be can it? |
Out of my three girls, I have one...lil' Miss:aimeeyorkAbby who prefers to do a squat balancing act on one leg. Hmmm, maybe she was an acrobat in a traveling circus in another life...lol!:D |
I don't remember who it was, but someone here had a very cute leg lifting story. She said that one of their boy yorkies was normally a squatter, but he started checking out how his big brother peed, and his brother lifted his leg. So the little guy started lifting his leg too... the only problem was that he'd lift one of the front ones. :p |
My Phoebe, does that since a pup, you had to see her when she wear a dress, the other day I went to the post office she is wearing pink dress and pink bow, she did that to the tree there and one man was looking at me like:eek: I think he just thinking why are you dressing your boy like a girl???:yelrotflm ps. thank God she only mark outside, she also does that back feet kicking like a bull ha,ha :lol tears |
Well, it sounds like there are a lot of different preferences! My Daisy kind of does a half squat/half leg lift like some of the others. I guess I won't be too alarmed about this and just find amusement in it. Thanks for all the great stories! |
I have had female yorkies for 17+ years now. They follow each other around in the yard and pee after one another in the same spot. All of my girls have always squatted to pee but always lift one of their legs slightly. I just figured that all yorkies do it for some odd reason. :animal36 |

My boy will lift his leg.... But then other times he will squat to pee--but the whole time he will walk. He'll just be peeing and walking. What in the world? |
