Cant have just one? Seems like after being a part of your YT community for about a week or so now that ive discovered many of you have 2 babys or more! So would u recommend having 2 so that they have a playmate? The finacial part isnt an issue for us. I would just really like to rescue a yorkie from a local shelter. Any suggestions? Is this a bad idea for a first time yorkie owner? When i was growing up we had 2 HUGE dogs. A 100 lb shepherd and a 95lb pitbull so im not a dog newbie altogether. Would me and my furbaby have a closer bond if i just had one? Just wanted some opinions. Thanks :D |
I have 2 yorkies. They keep each other company and are very close. They have each other so I dont have any separation anxiety problems. Even though I have 2 one is very bonded to me and the other to my Husband. I think its a good idea to have two or more if you can afford it and have the time. My breeder thinks so also |
I agree with you they are like potatoe chips, you cant have just one:D, I am looking for another one too, well I have REALLY been looking, there is not ever any in shelters where we live and most of the rescues have older dogs ,not that Im opposed to an older dog , just Laci is a super super playful puppy Im afraid she would irratate and older dog. I look all the time for a older puppy that wasnt big enough to breed or wasnt chosen from the litter.. just keep checking the rescue section... I think its great when dogs can grow up together like children :D:D |

I also think you should definitely look into adopting from a rescue. Have you checked the Rescues forum here on YT? There are so many wonderful guys needing loving homes. |
Hi, I have three, one I had from 10 weeks until he was 8 yrs old before I got another one. The second I got when he was 11 weeks old. A year later I got a rehomed 6 yr old. I am close to each one as they are each so different from one another. The 8 yr old is active, plays with the one yr old, learns easily and just very happy go lucky. The one year old is like "a fart in a whirlwind", always on the move, demanding to be played with, and a little ham. The rehomed one is very laid back, doesn't play with the other two, just likes to lay in my lap, or her bed. They all get along and get thier own indivual attention, based on thier personality needs. I am looking for a fourth one actually. I think yours would love a playmate. I know having the two play together frees up my time for other things too. |
Well me and my soon to be hubby (july 16th were getting married) own a granite shop in sandusky ohio. So I work from home on our website and ill be home with my furbaby all day everyday :D I also plan to take him with me everywhere i go as me and my son often visit with my mom and my friends. My friends also own a yorkie and a daschund so we will be having playdates!!! cant wait!!! Thanks for your input. I wanted a puppy so he will grow up with me but i also had thought about a rescue so that i can be a part of making a difference in the life of an animal that really needs a family of his own. |
We currently have 3, have always had at least 2 dogs at a time, so I can't imagine how a house would be with only 1. :p DH keeps saying we need to get a 4th so that it'll all be 'even'. To tell you the truth, if it wasn't for the financial consideration we'd probably have 20! It is just so much fun to watch them running and playing together. And so very comfy to lay all snuggled up under a 'blanket' of Yorkies. If you can afford it and you do your best to find one that'll fit into your household, I say go for it!! :) |
Thanks so much everyone! Its definately somthing i will be considering. Until then 2 MORE WEEKS TIL MY FURBABY COMES HOME!!! YAY! :D:D:D |
We have 4 and 3 of them are rescues. They are our kids and we love each one in a different way b/c they are so different too. Mikki (we got her at 10 weeks old) is my DH's baby (her choice) and the other three are mine... It is just so wonderful to watch them play and tease each other I could spend the rest of my life just doing that!!! :D |
It all started with Bella-boo... Bella-boo came first and even tho' she will always be the apple of my eye (don't tell the others!), there was always this little nagging feeling like just one more would be so much fun! Two years later...I came across YTNR (Yorkshire Terrier National Rescue Adoptions and Shop) and there I laid eyes on my Abby-girl! She was surrendered by her college student Momma when she outgrew her purse & the new boyfriend didn't like dogs...she definitely surrendered the wrong one...jmho! ;) Bella & Abby were like two :aimeeyork:aimeeyork peas in a pod and from behind...it was actually hard to tell the two apart! Kizmet accomplished!:friendsh: After adopting Abby, I decided to join forces with YTNR and became a "foster mom" which caused me to have reason to be looking on their website which stirred those feelings again...and BAM! Before my eyes is a lil' Yorkie-girl, Phoebe who was pulling on my heart strings. I did inquire about her but then decided I should really put my attentions to fostering...plus, did I really another :aimeeyork? Still I could not stop thinking about Phoebe and checked now and then to see if she was still there...and she was! This feeling of "serendipity" started to take over & I felt like I was meant to be her Momma and the girls were meant to be her new :aimeeyork furblings :aimeeyork (my new word!). :D After a lot of talking & visits with her foster mom, Moira...and convincing our YTNR (CA director) that I still intended to be a foster mom...Phoebe eventually came home to live with us furever! :cheer: PS...As many of us have "multiples" (like Jon & Kate + 8)...it is IMPERATIVE that one must FIRST access their finances & time to make sure that you have enough of BOTH to commit to the needs of these babies! |
If you have the resources it makes a great difference in their lives There really isn't anything wrong with having just one But Dogs and esp Yorkies are very gregarious animals and they enjoy one another's company I have 2 and I cannot imagine having just one |

I have three and am looking for an opening (with DH) for at least one more :D |
I have 3 and just lost my pom recently. I highly recommend more than one if you can afford it. I do not find 3 much harder than 1. |
I only have one so far. But I would love to get Cohen a companion. As soon as I move from my apartment, I will definitely find another yorkie baby! :D |
