Peeing Problem answers needed Hello, If anyone knows and can offer me information why my 9 month old male toy yorkie is lifting his leg everywhere in the house, it would be greatly appreciated. For the first 6 months, it was almost like he was born paper train. BUT NOW...geez! he wants to do it everywhere except the paper. However, for the last week, he got back on track somewhat going on the paper. Is this a common male problem? Is it this breed? Will it ever stop? What can I do to stop this? My house is being destroyed with PEE!!! Thanks |
Belly Bands... I don't own a male...but I'm sure that you will hear many replies.... ;) and many do use Belly bands that some of our members make here and sell.... Sorry...and I hope you find some solutions... |
1 Attachment(s) My suggestion would be to use a belly band. This will stop him from marking everywhere in your house. Once he is back on track of urinating where you want him to then you could discontinue using them . This will definitely save the furniture and carpet. I am attaching a pic of what one looks like…I made my own, but there are members here that sell them… Good luck! |
If he is not yet neutered get it done asap. |
Max did the same thing at about 7 months. Before that he was paper trained. I found out that I had to have him neutered. He is still going all over, but I'm really restraining him right now. It has become a habit and behavioral for him. Some dogs also think they're in control and you really have to be the leader and mean it. Max is like that so even though it's very hard and annoying, I have to keep my eye on him all the time for a few weeks so that he doesn't get to go on the rug. I have him on a leash and crated when I'm busy and at night. From what I've also learned,l you have to get rid of the odor as completely as possible. Good luck, Judy |
For Judy Hi Judy, I sent a response to your message. I hope this helps you. It has been a long time since I was on here, due to moving and settling in. My dog is perfectly trained since we moved. Couldn't have asked for a better dog. PATIENCE....<<< gotta have it. Hope you get the message it was a long one. P.S. I never got my yorkie fixed. Don't plan on it. But, it is good to do, it if you dont' want them to mate. I am not sure on that one yet. In case you don't get the long message I sent you....my best advice is to keep to a certain time you take your dog out. They are like kids, they want an excuse to go outside. If you keep to certain times taking him out, his body will get used to that....and he won't want to pee in the house, because in his mind, it is his excuse for going out. Because he is still young, you will have to just keep taking him out. The other thing is, I found my dog to want to mark spots, like new blankets, cushions, mats, etc. So, I watch him for a few seconds and tell him to leave the area. He is doing good. It will be hard to get rid of the smell, I never could. But, I did not try all the products on the market for smell removers either. I understand some may work. I used dish soap. But, also, covered the area's with thick clear plastic. I also had used a child gate... to keep him in certain areas, like the kitchen. Never used a crate. I know it is a pain, to keep taking the dog outside, but it will work for you. And he will want to control peeing elsewhere ,to just go outside. The best of luck to you Judy. Sincerely, Catherine |
Sounds to me that he is marking. |
Sounds like marking to me also. If he has already started this behavior then fixing him won't be the answer. My little male chin started marking, had him fixed and he still did it. I put belly bands on him and that seemed to cure him. He doesn't do it anymore. |
What is a belly band? My vet suggested neutering at 6months, I hope we make it to then w/out this problem, yml |
