How to stop aggresiveness My little yorkie, Maddy, who is 8 months old, is so aggressive towards my son. I have tried and tried to stop her, but she won't. He hasn't done anything to her. He has tried to spend time with her, so she gets better used to him, but that doesn't work either, she doesn't want anything to do with him. She grabbed hold of his leg last week and went up three steps attached to his leg drawing blood. She gets a real mean bark like she's attacking. He is 6' 5" and she is only 6 pounds, does she really think she can win. She really still doesn't like my husband, but she doesn't attack him. What should I do, my son is really getting annoyed by this. Joan |

This behavior needs to be stopped immediately. If she isn't properly trained her aggressive behavior will worsen. The very instant that she displays any aggressive signs (growling, barking) he needs to grab her by the scruff of her neck, shout NO and put her onto her back maintaining eye contact until she looks away and calms. When she calms he can release pressure and praise her. He can also try to reward her with treats at any sign of friendliness. Cheerios are great. She may be reacting out of fear from his size, so he should try approaching her from floor level. |
IMMEDIATELY go see a bheaviorist. This is a VERY serious problem and requires professional aid. Your vet will recomend a canine behaviorist for you to see, and this person will evaluate your dog's behavior and tell you precisely what you must do to correct it. In the meantime read this thread about dominance training: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...7&postcount=20 I want to stress this: Your dog is young enough that if you go RIGHT AWAY, this can be corrected easily and quickly. If you wait even a single month, you will lose some very valuable time as the 1 year mark is seen as a sort of cementing of agressive and dominant characterisitcs. Your dog is currently an adolescent and still adjustable. If your dog acts this way toward a stranger or a child he may have to be put down. This is a very serious behavior and is far more than a simple training issue. |
