I am so irritated!!! Why do people hate filling out puppy questionnaires? What is the big deal?? I got an email from someone that said they would have been interested in one of my puppies if I had not required a questionnaire...They think that if they are going to spend that kind of money, they shouldn't have to answer anything....Needless to say they will not be getting one of my babies, but now I am wondering if having the questionnaire is a problem for most people... I would like your opinions good or bad to help me determine if I am doing the right thing...Is it an invasion of someones privacy? Does it really ensure a better home? Should I take it off of my website and just do phone interviews to determine if they will get a puppy? I hate this part of breeding, making sure you find the perfect fit for each and every baby!! Opinions PLEASE!!! lol.... |
I wouldnt be offended to fill out a questionaire and I think someone who would has something to hide. Heck some breeders do home visits. Dont feel bad and keep your questionare |
Consider it a savings grace! I require a questionnaire to be filled out as well. If they can't do that much then they don't want one of my dogs. I ask these questions for a reason. I want to know who my babies are going to.. I am irritated with you! |
I wouldn't be offended at all. If anything, it would reassure me as to the quality of breeder I'm dealing with. Also, I would think as a breeder I would want one (not that I am a breeder). It takes time and thought to fill one of those out so it should help to identify those serious about getting a new pup. I think you should keep your questionaire. Those who don't want to take the time to fill it out don't deserve one of your puppies anyway, IMHO. |
Someone who cannot be bothered to fill out a questionaire is probably not going to want to be bothered with getting up in the middle of the night for potty breaks, or nightly brushing or simple training...not to mention it sounds very controlling and manipulative to say "I would have been interested in one of your puppies if..." When I got Phoebe, we exchanged many emails where I told her all about my living conditions, other pets, etc, I sent pics of my home and yard and then we had several phone conversations before she felt comfortable, I really respected her for that. |
They couldn't be bothered to fill out a questionairre, but they took the time out to email you that they didn't want to fill out a questionairre??? They don't deserve one of your pups IMO. |
I wouldn't be offended I'd take it as a sign that you care about where your puppies go. I would want to reaasure you that the puppy would have a great home with me!! |
I love filling out questionnaires!!!!! Send it to me! I'll fill it out!! Oh wait, I'm not looking for a puppy.... I'll still fill one out! :p |
I would keep the questionnaire as a way to rule out potential new owners easily. Then I would do extensive phone interviewing. If they can't take the time to fill it out, then they can't take 15-20 years out of their lives to have a dog. I am on the fence about home checks though. We aren't hiding anything here but I still don't think I'd want somebody in our personal things. I know some do it just to make sure everything is secure (fencing, etc.) which is fair but if you are going to sell them your dog, you should be able to trust that everything is as safe as possible already. Just my opinion. :) |
You are just weeding out some of the many wacko's and scams out there; the puppy questionnaire is a service to you. You certainly can't rely on it to find a good home for your puppies, but you might consider calling a few of those people back, and talk to them awhile, before you set up appointments to see them. You certainly wouldn't want just anyone to visit your home, and you don't want just anyone to have one of your puppies. |
I just looked at it myself and honestly I dont find one thing offensive about it AT ALL , it would honestly take someone 5 minutes to answer the questions... I agree dont give them a pup.. his loss anyways.. Id love to take Laila home :) |
I think it is important that a breeder know something about the people and environment a puppy will be going to. But, I was hesitant to ask people to fill out the questionnaire I had prepared. So, I sort of filled it out myself through conversation. I did ask some specific questions, but I filled in the form myself. Most of the answers I already knew from just "talking" both on the phone and in person. Keep in mind though, I only sold two puppies to someone I did not already know, so I am not very experienced. That is probably why I was reluctant to just hand them a form and say "fill it out." But neither of them seemed at all offended as I filled in the form. Myself, I would not be offended if someone asked me to fill out a questionnaire. But I understand because of the love I have had for a litter of puppies. Maybe everyone does not get that. And if they can't "get it" maybe they don't really need a Yorkie. |
Keep your questionaire. The way i do mine is they WILL fill out one if they even want to talk to me. I have people write and say "when is a good time to call". Sorry, I don't do phone calls unless I have FIRST APPROVED you. IF I approve them, then I will call the number they have provided and we will chat and get to know each other. But, yes, it is possible to make a wrong choice even with the questionaire. people can be so deceiving and lie right thru their teeth. But I have found that mine helps more than not. |
