Did you have trouble potty training? Before getting my yorkie I did lots of research and heard how awful they were to potty train. Roxie was very easy and Ryder trained even easier (just following the lead of his sis). They both go outside, but I was just thinking how training went pretty easy and wondered what others experience with their pups were.:aimeeyork |
Missy was a breeze to train as well. :) |
I want to say Jackson was easy, but on the other hand... he was not. I say that because he caught on VERY fast to using outside for potty and I know for sure he understands it. He was 100% potty trained at 5-6 months old BUT only in the certain area of the house. Once he gets upstairs on the carpet - he usually will go and find a spot. So I call him 99% potty trained. I know he knows which is what's frustrating but the minute he slips upstairs, he just loves to pee. |

were still working on it. lily is just 7 wks but has the hang of the puppy pads pretty good. big problem is she will sometimes sniff the edge with her nose but her butt is on the floor and she goes.LOL |
I did not have much trouble training my 3 Yorkies to potty outside. i also am a stay at home mom and had LOTS of time to give to training. |
At 6 mos, Levi is 99.9% housetrained. For whatever reason, he refuses to go outside during the night (we have a doggie door). He must be afraid of the dark. His only "accidents", which really aren't accidents, happen during the night. |
milu was really easy to potty train. she is my first dog. so i kept trying different things in the beginning and i really confused her (and myself) but once i decided that i wanted to pad train her, it was really easy. she is so smart! :D |

So did you all use the crate training method? I haven't tried this and I am not sure if I want too, Bailey goes half the time on his pad and the other half he'll just pee in his pen. I can't wait for the time when he is trained enough to go around the apartment, rather then confined to a pen so much. |
Josh was easy to potty train. He learned quickly to potty on the washable pads. Giving him treats and cheering for him after pottying encouraged him to potty on the pads. He loved pottying on his pads. He would run around the room after pottying on the pads, which was so cute. He still loved to be cheered after pottying on his pads or outside. He did regress and started pottying in the game room when he was about nine months old. With patience and following him around the house, I was able to stop that behavior. |
I thought about pad training my two but we had other dogs that were big that went outside and the little guys followed- all in all it is easier for me to let them out and potty then to mess with the pads- they caught on so quickly to go outside which was a huge blessing. I just dont think that yorkies are hard to break. I think that any dog could be but once we are persistent and consistent with training they are so smart and learn so fast. Thanks for all your comments.:D |
potty training wasn't easy, but now we are good 2 go...... |
I didn't get mine as pups so I faced the challenge of adult dogs who had never been potty trained. Tater was very difficult and is still not 100% but got light years better after the 'snip snip'. He will potty outside with no accidents as long as I take him out regularly. He is just not good at telling me he wants out. CoCo is my puppymill girl and I thought it would be difficult to train her but she was very easy compared to Tater. She also won't tell me she wants out, but she loves to go out because she gets yummy treats when she does! :) |
I wish I had it as easy as you guys! My Maddie is 18 months and potties outside. We have always taken (carried) her out to a pen to potty. The back yard is fenced, but big and we learned quickly she is hard to catch if she doesn't want to be caught!! Anyway, it seems she will go religiously when we take her out on schedule. Now that she is older, we have her schedule down pretty well. The problem is, if she has to go before we take her out, she doesn't wait, she just goes. Whereever she is. I always use the enzyme cleaner and she never goes back to the same spot. It is almost like it just never occurs to her to wait until we take her out. She doesn't "tell" us when she needs to go. I have heard about the bells, but we have a U shaped house, so if she rings the bell on one side of the house and we are on the other, we won't hear it. She will go weeks without an accident and then I'll find a couple of dried spots on the carpet where I didn't even know she had gone. Sometimes the spots aren't very big, like she started to go and then remembered.... ???? |
