For those with 2 (or more) Yorkies This has been on my mind for a while. JoJo has severe separation anxiety and it breaks my heart to leave him alone whenever I leave. And when I am home with him there's only so much attention I can give him. I wish I could entertain him all day, but obviously that's impossible. I think sometimes he feels lonely and bored (more than likely it's just my guilt, but I can't help it!). So I've been thinking about getting another Yorkie, but I don't know if it would be the right decision. What I do know is that if I get another one, I'd prefer to rescue one, or adopt an older one, rather than get a puppy. I've come to realize that puppies will always find homes, while the older ones sometimes tend to get overlooked and it breaks my heart. :( And I'm thinking I'd rather have another boy, I guess because I figure 2 neutered boys would get along better than a boy and a girl?? Honestly, I really don't know! Keeping his separation anxiety in mind, can anyone tell me what the pros and cons of having 2 Yorkies are, and what things I should consider should I decide to adopt a second one? Any experiences with boy/boy or boy/girl, etc? I really appreciate it. :) |
Well, I have 3 currently......I say currently because I'm sure more will find their ways into my heart and house and contribute to taking over our bed! Lol My 3, 1 boy and 2 girls are so attached to each other now. If one goes to the groomer, they all go. If one goes for a ride, they all go etc....they play, sleep, eat, fight, tease, annoy the cat, take care of Dove (our old dog) together. I dont think now, they could do without each other. I dont worry when I go out because they all have each other for company. One yorkie is great, multiple yorkies is heaven! Imo, you cant go wrong with getting another one for you or for him! He may not like it at first being an only child, but he will soon get to love his new brother or sister and it will ease you guilt immensly! I say GO FOR IT!! The more the merrier! Best of luck..... |
I have 3 yorkies and recently lost my 12 year old pom. Until a few years ago I always had one dog at a time, then I added Cali, then Pixie and then Roxie. I love having multiples. They play, fight and snuggle together. I also don't feel so guilty leaving them when I go out. I have all females and they do go fight some but most of it is playful. I also got Pixie at 13 months and if I get anymore I hope to rescue an older one. So I say go for it. |
I have three wonderful yorkies! Boy they would not no what to do with out one another there. They play together, sleep together, eat together, yorkies need to be with other yorkies or dogs if owner works. That is just their personalitys. Id say get another yorkie. You will be so glad you did. Id say 2 months to 1 year. (Female.) Good luck I hope you find the right yorkie. Blondschillin:animal36 |
I had a female who was 2 when I decided to get another one. I bought a male who was a puppy but he was so easy to train because Roxie is so good. He follows her everywhere. I always hated leaving Roxie she got so nervous would have diarrhea and just bark whenever I left. Now that Ryder is around the comfort one another. It was the best choice that I could have ever made! |
Well so far it looks like there are no cons for getting a second Yorkie! :p I was wondering...how do you transport multiple Yorkies in the car? Would 2 fit in one carseat, or do you have one for each? Or is there another way? |
I hope to add a new addition soon as well :) |
I have 2 yorkies I have always had one dog at a time, but never had a yorkie before. When I got Giorgio, I fell instantly in love, but felt something was missing. I got Chanel 6 weeks after him, and now, I feel complete. I never thought Giorgie was lonely until I brought home Chanel. It was like she awakened this zest for life that I didn't know he had. They wrestle, fight, steal each others toys, and cuddle every day. They love each other so much. I am so glad I have the two of them. I definitely think you should get another one. |
