Wont stop peeing in the crate! HELP I have a 8 week old yorkie, which I am in love with...BUT we are having serious potty training issues. 1st he will not stop peeing in his crate, it does not matter if he is in there for just 30 min he WILL pee in it I wash the crate out every time but he continues to do it..any suggestions. 2nd if he poops he tries to eat it (gross!) when i catch him doing it I tell him no no and move him away. He is still not fully potty trained. Please help! |
You might want to post this question in the training section of the forum. Your baby is only 8 wks. old. Most of the time babies aren't taken from their mothers until 12 wks. He is very, very young. He won't be fully potty trained for a long time. The general rule is 1 hr. pee free per month old. I would even set my timer for during the night. Also are you using piddle pads? I use washable ones and love them. Also use ex-pens so that they sleep on one side and can do their piddles on the other. Are you using an enzyme cleaner after he piddles? That's super important because otherwise he will always return to where he piddled. Hopefully someone else will have some suggestions. ~Joanne~ |

Joanne- I have never heard about washable piddle pads. I am going through about 5 per day in this crate. Would love to know where you got them. Dana |

I also agree with the other poster..although I did get mine WAY to young...8 weeks is to young to me away from Mom. You have to be on him all the time...Don't give up...be consistent... Good Luck! |

If you go to the baby section at walmart, you can get washable pads in their baby bedding section. Typically you can cut one in half or quarters if you get a crib sized one. |
I think the problem is that you have pee pads inside the kennel. Your sending mixed signals. Kennel training should not allow peeing in the kennel- yet you want him to pee on the pads so he is confused! My advice.. if you are kenneling him then take out the pad use a blankie and make is small enough that he can only have room to turn around. If its bigger than that, put a box in it or something to decrease he size. && take him out at least every hour and praise big time when he goes. He wont want to lay in his pee so he will hold it if there is no room to get away from it. If you dont want to get up so much... get an ex pen and have his kennel in there for a bed (with a blankie in it) and a pee pad way on the other side of the pen. Hope this helps :) |
Petco is having an online sale for one more day. I actually think today is the last day but their xpens are on sale and marked down to 49.99. Its a nice pen. I bought one for my little guy. Now im just waiting for his arrival :D |

Thanks so much. I didnt realize I needed to not put them in his kennel, I have always put the pad at the back and the bed at the front. I bought the small wire kennel. He is using the pad, but every now and then he will also pee on his bed. I will change that today. it did come with a divider, so I will put that up and see how he does. Thanks! |
