Quick question! 3 Attachment(s) Riot got neutered today, and we were given a cone to put on him when we can't supervise him for the next two weeks until his stitches come out. He's been doing fairly well with not licking but he started up so we put the cone on him to kind of get him used to it. He HATED IT! He wouldn't move with it on. Even when we called him or squeaked his toys. He literally stood in the same spot for 15 minutes without moving until his head slowly drooped to the floor so his nose was in the carpet. Will he get used to it?? Will he know he can move with it on? Also, does he need it overnight? I cant believe I forgot to ask the vet when I picked him up! |
It's pathetic, but YES he needs to keep it on. I remember when I got my cat fixed, he had the cone on, and it was too big. As soon as he took a step forward, the edge of the cone dug into the carpet, and his head ended up down towards the carpet, cone down as well. It was funny for us, but not for him. In the long run, it's for his betterment. Just keep and eye out. There are soft cones out there as well. Look for it in your pet shops. |
Including overnight?? |
Esp overnight! They will be uncomfortable, but it's for their betterment. Have you ever had a really bad bug bite? or been really sick? Once you start to get better, isn't always after a good night's sleep? Most healing is ovenight. Dont' take that collar off! |
Have you thought about putting him in onesies, for infants. I hate those cones and alot of people here suggested using those. I just snapped them around his legs. You do have to be super careful and make sure he doesn't go potty in them, or it will get his stitches wet and be very uncomforatable. They worked well for my Ralphie, and after a few days he didn't even need them. Good luck, your little baby looks sooo cute in his little cone, I know how awful it is to see them like that :(:(. |
Thanks! |
I only put the cone on Missy when I couldn't supervise her. At night, I just put a pair of her regular jammies on her. She left the stitches alone. Does he sleep with you? If so, would you notice if he started to lick? |
Oh that poor Riot in his cone...I know he's not feeling like it but, he's sooo cute! :D Hoping the days of cones or pull ups (that's a new one for me!) are soon over and he'll be up & around :dogwalk: in no time! |
When Mia got fixed she never even licked. I used onesies at nite, and had her sleep with me. I think a cone would of been more tramatic than the surgery. I think the soft ones are much less drama for them. Riot is just a doll. I know you both will be so glad when he is healed and all of this is behind you! Best of luck with everything until then. |
