Why? Just wondering if anyone else has a yorkie as stubborn as my little Dixie! She loves me so much and loves to be held and loved. However when I open up the door sometimes for her to come in or go outside and sit down and try to get her to come to me for holding and snuggling, she will just sit and look at me or sit at the door refusing to come in even though I know she wants to. The other two yorkies that we have that belong to my twin daughters come right into the house and dixie just sits six foot from the door and refuses to come in. You have to go out and follow her around til she stops long enough for you to pick her up. We have tried leaving her outside while everyone else goes in hoping she will realize everyone else is in, eating dinner or something but this does not seem to affect her. When we go back and look at her she is standing in the same place looking at you and if you open the door she still does not come in. She is so stubborn. Any suggestions for getting her to come when I want her to?:) |
Ranger does the same thing. He loves being held and whines when we are not around, the whole nine yards, but when we are a few feet away and call him, he will either just sit there and stare, or lay down and start whining. I am sure that he just wants us to walk the extra distance to pick him up. Hopefully it is something they grow out of. |
How old is she? Some people have suggested training to come, by putting a handful of cheerios in your pocket, and various times during the day, calling her and rewarding her with praise and a cheerio. I don't think Joey is as good as coming as most dogs I've had, who never seemed to think about it, but just came. He is better than he's ever been, and I can get him to sit and allow me to pick him up 99 percent of the time. |
The cheerios are a nifty idea. Our baby will come to us but when we try to pick him up he dodges us. If I'm sitting in a chair and bend down to pick him up, he won't let me do it. But as soon as I sit back and he'll jump in my lap. So I'm pretty sure he wants to be there, he just wants to do it himself. |
