Yorkies and weekend camping? does anyone take a camper out on the weekends and take mulitple yorkies/dogs? my husband wants a camper, im not crazy about it and i dont see it as practical because i have 2 kids and 4 yorkies. he is saying just bring them all. (because no one i know will keep them all weekend or be able to check in on them and let them out every time he wants to leave.) how do you handle it? what do you do with them when they need to potty, mine have never used the bathroom on a leash, one of my males sucks at being walked on a leash (needs training i know). any advice or tips would be appreciated, we havent gotten a camper yet. but he has been wanting one for years...so im sure its coming...he is using all his overtime money to save for it |
We have a travel trailer. We go camping all the time with 3 yorkies. We take an ex pen, their crates for night time and when we leave them alone. We have a great time. Everybody has a good time, we don't have skin kids at home so I don't know about that, but I see lots of people with kids and dogs. I bet you'd have a good time:D |
well i have all of that. but i think the expen might be to small for all 4..maybe need to get some extra panels, then take 2 of the crates 2 can sleep in one |
You can pull it off :) My dad has an RV and he, his girlfriend, their son and their 2 little dogs go camping A LOT. I went once so that was three dogs. When they had one, they used to just tie the dog outside with a lead but now with two, they have a big ex-pen and put it outside the RV so the dogs can just go out the RV door and into the fenced in area. |
we have a pop up camper and a camper on piece of land and take the dogs all the time. They love it and its not really anymore work then having to care for them at home. Pack up their food/leashes etc and go. :) |
All of ours go camping with us and agree an x pen is must with four. |
We do the same thing....I put 2 ex-pens together for play/potty time. Just keep a few baggies handy for the poops! :p We love it and they do too! |
We do it all the time...skin kids and fur babies, lol! We have their leashes and they have fun as long as they are with us! They also love to go fishing, lol! |
we have two guys and we go TENT camping all the time. they sleep with us on an air mattress in the tent. we leash tie them out when we are at the campsite, if we go somewhere we just take them with. :animal36 they really love it..and they are beat after the weekend. |
WE TAKE 6 DOGS IN OUR rv ALL THE TIME. wE BRING 2 X PENS AND HOOK THEM TOGETHER AND IT MAKES ONE BIG PLAY YARD FOR THEM oops sorry about the caps but I am not retyping this lol |

We have a 26' with a slide-out. We have a walk-a-round queen size bed, in the front. Full bathroom in the rear. Dinette on the side, sofa bed in the slide-out, etc. Make sure you get a good size freezer. A microwave is a necessity, and I have an oven, never thought I'd use it, but I use it a lot. You might want to consider one with bunks for the kids. Take your time, shop around and look at lots of different floor-plans. Use an x-pen for potty time. And make your husband responsible for two of the Yorkies, when you are taking walks. We have baskets on the front of our bikes and we each take one of the girls. I do know, they make baskets big enough to hold two Yorkies. We are retired, so we camp from Sunday evening to Thursday afternoon. It is pretty busy on the weekends, so you need reservations for most places. Our favorite place has a Doggie Beach and our girls love to swim! Camping in a travel trailer is a lot different than camping in a tent. So much easier. Good Luck. I hope you find that you like it. Sheila |
Loads of fun !! We do it every other weekend. We have a travel trailer and also tent camp. My two love it. :) Just pack a bag for the dogs same as packing for yourself or the skin kids. The x pen with extra panels would work best in your situation, and it's not really hard to find campsites that allow pets. Here in Pa. even a lot of state parks allow pets. We would camp with three kids and three dogs. We took the x pen, one large crate, harnesses and leashes, food and water, clothes, meds, brushes, combs, etc... Sometimes water they are not used to can upset their tummy so we always brought water from home. I would highly recommend camping with your fur babies. It's a great way to spend quality time with the family, skin kids and fur kids will both enjoy it. :D |
