I picked the RuNt??? I have found the puppy that I want but my husband is not happy that I picked the runt!! Even thought she is small now does not mean that she is going to be tiny for ever! She is at 5 weeks and weight is 13oz. I say she is small now but is to reach about 6-7lb. Her mom is 10lb and dad is 6lb. MH is thinking she will have alot of health issues due to her being the runt! I say everyone need to be loved and I love everything about her!! :aimeeyork Will she have more issues because is she is the runt? Will she be smaller then I think? I know it is hard to tell every dog is different! Thanks so much for any help!:) |

The only experience I have with getting a runt is Cali. Cali was the runt and way smaller than her 2 litter mates when I went to see them at 6 weeks. When I went to pick her up she was almost as big as her litter mates and ended up to be 5lb 6 ounces. She also has been continually sick, the first 6 months I spent over 7000 in vet bills due to hypoglycemia episodes is spite doing everything right and a liver shunt. She has bad allergies, numerous stomach problems that require immediate vet attention. Now whether this is due to her being the runt or just buying from a bad breeder I don't know. I am sure many breeders can give you more info on the general health of runts, i only have one experience. |
Hi. well I recently said Goodbye to my wee Sammie...He had been the runt of a litter..He was snall at about 2 half pounds fully grown ..He lived to nearly 15 years old and had very little problems apart from his teeth..which many have problems with I think. He was adorable and I loved him more because he was very small and a bit timid really. We have now got another small Yorkie...well he was the smallest of a litter of 5..The Breeder said he would be quite small fully grown..so we will see. I say if you like the look of a pup..go for it...The only thing I have noticed is that Breeders tend to ask more money for a small pup..and there is never any guarantee that it will stay small. I dont think she is going to be super small. I had one that was 12 oz at 8 weeks and she is 6 1/2 lbs now |

I have seen runts surpass the largest in the litter. |
I am not paying more because she is the smallest! I just loved her face and everything really!! Know can tell if they will have problems or not it is just how things fall! |
Matty was the runt and she is full of P & V!! And she's VERY healthy. I don't think there are problems with the runt just because they are the smallest in the litter (someone has to be the smallest, right?). |
That is what I told my H, some one is the biggest and some one is the smallest!! I just want the smallest! :) We are have not ever had a small dog, she will be our first. |
I dont think that she will necessarily stay the smallest. Coral was not the runt of the litter, but she is now 1/2 everyone elses size at 6 months. She has maintained 4.6 lbs for over a month while the runt (a boy) and her sister are at 9 lbs. I guess you never really know..... |
