Not to be rude, but if you are looking for the look of a doberman, why not look into Min Pins? They have the look without the size. Before we got Allie, it was a tossup between a Min Pin or a Yorkie for our household. Of course, Allie took the cake when I first met her!!

Actually that is what I was thinking too! The min pins are beautiful. They are just bred down to a smaller size. They are guard dogs . And I agree with the others. Having your yorkies first , helps, and then bringing in a bigger pup , the pup learns from the yorkies> Dogs are like people though. They have their own different temperments. Not one of the same. A laid back Dobie, would be great with a yorkie. Yorkie's can be bossy though> ;)

If you are going for just the look than I agree however the temperament of the breeds are totally different. To be honest, I dont think I could live with a MinPin!! Can you say Napoleon Complex?!!? lol

A German Pinscher is also a great alternative. They have a very similar temperament to a Dobe and are only about 40lbs. :D

Oh I've definitely considered them too. And German Pinschers as well. I like them all. I don't know what it is though, but I still think the doberman is my favorite.
My brother had a mini pinscher a while back and he was a fun dog so it is definitely a possibility for me.
I have actually had a really hard time finding mini pin and german pinscher breeders in california to contact, but I'll keep searching so I can get more info..

I do remember my brothers dog being like this...they sent it away to get trained which he never did with any other dog. I still liked the dog, but I'm a lover of most dogs anyways.
I have had a really hard time finding german pinscher breeders, especially in California. I like the fact that these dogs are smaller than dobermans but I've heard they are rare so I'm worried about the price.

That is such a cute picture! Exactly what I want in my house. I always love the big dog/little dog pictures or the dog/cat pictures...makes me have faith that all animals can adapt to new family members no matter how different they are.
Another question...you wouldn't think a female yorkie and a female doberman would have issues with each other, right? My yorkie is fixed, and I would want to get another female dog rather than a male.
