Ok I have two questions. Family reunion coming up in July at a state park. Leashed pets are allowed, but I know I would be the only one there with a dog. Do you think it would be rude to show up with my dog. Ok second, The reunion is 4 hours away. Have any of you ever left your cat home alone overnight? I would love to take her too, but not sure how well she travels. I may be able to find a friend to come by and check on her if I leave her home. It would only be for one night. I was trying not to have to drive down and back in the same day. Any ideas would be helpful.

Yes I've left my cat at home alone overnight! I just have to leave LOTS of food because he eats a bowl a day... he's a large cat (=

OH! And I leave the blinds open just a bit where his cat seat is so he can look out at all the birds and squirrels he'll never get to chase ;)

my cat is home alone all the time over night, even for more than one night. If she is strictly an in-door cat just make sure she has plenty of food and water and a clean litter box and they will do just fine, cats are very independent, waaay more independent than dogs. and if you still worry about it, i would just have a friend come by to check on the water, because as long as they have water, they will survive lol

Yes she is strictly an indoor cat. I think she would be fine, but I have never left her alone at night. I guess I am just so over protective. The funny thing is before she came to live with me she was a stray and fended for herself. So I guess she should be able to manage in the house. :rolleyes:

We've left our cats for the weekend. I had an automatic water bowl and a feeder type of food dispenser and an automatic litter box. They were fine. :)

Yes I think she will be ok, so do you think it would be rude to show up at the reunion with my dog?

Yes, my immediate family won't care at all, but some of the more distant relatives aren't exactly animal people. The think I'm weird because I treat Laya like my baby. HELLO she is my baby. LOL

When I owned cat's I left them for a few days before at home . I was not worried about them at all. Kitties are so independent. I think sometimes thry prefer the solitude. Be certain that you leave plenty of water, and food .Your cat will be fine. I also would leave a little blinds open so he/she can have some light, and do bird watch, dog watch, and all that great stuff a cat loves to do :)

No, not rude at all. it is a state park and leashed dogs are allowed, why would anyone mind ? I would bring mine in a heartbeat

And.. i'm with the majority, your cat will be fine alone all night :)

I would bring her. It's not at someone's house. She can't hurt anything. Maybe some of the people will be won over by Layla.

In that case I would take her out of your car in a baby car seat and then tell them all to excuse you while you change her diaper and feed her a bottle :) I'm so mean!!

I vote that you take Laya. Your kitty will be fine overnight. I have left my two for three days and had my mom check up on them everyday. They had plenty of food and water for the entire time, but I felt better that she was there to visit :)

I say who cares what your distant relatives think of you taking Laya! If having a dog makes you weird... then there are a lot weirder people out there they should be worrying about! :p

If you are not going to a relatives house that does not allow pets, then I see no problem. If you are going to a State Park that dogs are allowed then she is part of your family, so I vote she be included in the family reunion. Life is too short spend it with the ones you love, all of them!
If they do not want to pet Layla that is their choice, they are probably the one losing out on meeting a GREAT friend!

I have left my cat overnight too, will do great and be very happy to see you the next day.

I'll be spending the night at my moms house so that's not a problem. She adores Laya as much as I do. You're right, if they don't want to have anything to do with Laya it's ok. She will most likely be in her stroller anyway.

It sure is okay to leave you alone for one night. Unlike dogs, I think cats prefer a little me time every now and then. I have a cat too and I left her alone for two nights. I swear she acted like she was mad at me for coming home. Just leave plenty of food and water and and clean litter box and your cat should be okay. My cat is very stand offish so she really loves the solitude. Also I have a sticker on my front door and back door that says "PETS INSIDE IN CASE OF EMERGENCY, PLEASE CALL THIS NUMBER".

Any longer the two nights, I have my stepmom check in on her about every other day until I get home.
