Biting little bitch. I have a very lively 8 wk. old Female yorkie. First I named her Emma, but have changed it to Paris Hilton because she has an arrogant attitude, growls when you tell her 'NO' and prances around like she's the queen. In short, she's a little bitch  . I laugh at her constantly. Anyway, is the biting thing simply a puppy phase that she will outgrow or will she continue? She bites during play, but can be a little nippy when playing. I firmly tell her NO when she bites and ussually give her something like a greenie or small bone to chew on when she gets like that, but it hasn't slowed her down. I've been giving her a firm thump on her nose when she bites, but it appears to be egging her on to bite more, so i'm going to stop. So, in your experience with puppies, is this something that she will likely outgrow or are there some steps that I can take to curb her desire? Thanks - Al |
Please do not hit your puppy, not ever. use crate training and do as much research on raising Yorkie's as possible. We would love to see pictures of your new little one! |
Very likely, she's teething. You can buy a product called "Bitter Apple" at the pet store and spray it on your hands and things you don't want her to bite, like furniture, etc. One thing I learned from puppy school: When she nips your hand while playing, you must YELP very loud in the same fashion a puppy would yelp when they are hurt. This will shock her and she'll back off. This is how they behave when they play with their litter. A high pitched YELP from their brothers or sisters indicates that the playing has gone a bit too far. Hope that helps! Welcome to the board. |
I am new also I have a 5 month old yorkie and getting another this weekend he use to nip when he was smaller but has stopped now. I do not think there is a better dog than a yorkie :) :) |
Yelp.. I think I'll try the yelping bit. She does react when I give the the 'no' treatment. |
