Question on teeth Samson has double teeth on the bottom, I think it's his canines, and I'm guessing his baby teeth have not come out and his adult teeth are growing in. I called the Dr. and the receptionist/nurse said if they are not bothering him (he doesn't want to eat or play, etc) than it's o.k. to wait to have them looked at when he gets neutered on Oct. 25th. My question do you think his teeth will turn out o.k. if I wait to have them pulled or whatever they decide to do in October????? He seems a little irritable sometimes but I don't know if it's his teeth or what. He eating and playing and everything but sometimes he'll kinda whimper real light like you can barely hear it. Thanks in advance for your advice!! |
This is something I found: Teething: Yorkies and toy dogs in general have a tendency to retain their puppy teeth, especially the canines. At around 5 months of age you should start to watch the teeth closely, a perfect bite may go off in a matter of days. You may feel it's not important for a correct scissors bite, but this is the first step of the digestion process, proper chewing is important. The other importance is that the proper bite stays cleaner, over lapping misaligned teeth are a good source for bacteria and tartar to build rapidly. http://www.yorkie.org/yorkie_puppies/puppies.html |

I just took Dublin Wednesday for neutering, microchipping and to have his two bottom canines pulled because they were still behind his new teeth. (He's 6 months.) Low and behold, they pulled a total of 8 teeth!! There were more in the back that I couldn't see. Now I wonder if I should have waited to see if they would have come out on their own. My poor little baby got it from both ends!! |
Yoda had 2 top ones that stayed and had to be removed...my vet pulled them at the same time that he was neutered and microchipped. He just had this done monday and now he is fine...We kept a close watch on them so his bite did not misalign. btw he is 7 mo. now ;) |
We had Biddy's extra teeth pulled when we had her spayed, and that was when she was about 10 months old. She was fine until then. Good luck! |
