Finding an Oversized Yorkie Hi All, I had a 12 pound yorkie who passed away about 6 months ago (at 16). I know the breed standard is below 7 pounds, but I'm desperately hoping to find another yorkie that weighs more than 10 pounds. Anyone hear have a bigger yorkie? Or have any advice on what I should do? Thanks ccb917@gmail.com |
Check rescue sites in your area. Larger Yorkies are often "gotten rid of" since they don't meet the standards. Consider adoption. |
A lot of people here have yorkies way over standard. I just saw some posts by breeders who say they keep their puppies for up to five months, at which point, you have a much better idea of what size they will be. Maybe you can find a breeder who believes they have some oversized pups. |
My girl is 13 lbs-- she came from a rescue of dogs who had belonged to a BYB-turned-animal hoarder. If you plan to try the rescue route, just be aware that small dogs usually go fast in rescues. If you let the places you'd be interested in adopting from know ahead of time what you are looking for and stop in every now and then to visit or volunteer, you might be in the mind of the shelter workers when they do get a dog in that meets your criteria. |
