I saw those cute little life vest and wanted to get them for Ryle and Fancie Pants because we have a pool in the backyard, but then I started thinking....what if the like the pool so much they try to jump in without life vest on. So we have decided that they will not be doing any doggie paddaling in the pool. :p |

I got a little plastic kiddie pool for Madison. She's not liking it so far, but it's still early. |

We have a very large lap pool on the side of our home that goes to the front yard. We swim lots! Last year I put Mia on the step and showed her how to get out. This year she went in the pool on a boogie board and then would jump off the board and swim to the steps. I slowly moved the boggie board farther from the steps and she would swim more and more. Now after a month she will take her ball, drop it in, bark at it and then swim in to get it. She must of jumped in 4 times today for a dip! I don't take her outside unless I am there with her. I have a water dog for sure!! She loves the pool. If you have a built in pool they need to know how to get out of it. |
Quick question. This is pertaining to pools but what about oceans? We are moving to south carolina in september and will find a place to take our girl. Has anyone taken their lil one to a beach yet? how'd they do? does the salt water hurt them any? |
Dixie has a life jacket. I have some pictures of her in it, but I'm not sure how to load them on here. We have a ski boat and are in it all summer. She doesn't seem to mind the jacket. Although, with her being only 2 pounds, its a little big on her. :) We got the jacket from a sporting goods store. |
My 3 yorkies have been to the ocean. They love to chase the waves out and run back in as the waves wash in. I always try to bathe the girls after they have been to the ocean due to the salty water and salt buildup in the fur. At home all 3 like to swim. I do not make any of them get in if they don't want to. They love to jump on my float and float out to the middle. Then they jump off and swim towards the steps. It is a great idea to show them the steps so they can always swim out. We have a l6 x 32 foot pool and the girls love to go swimming. It is 8 foot in the deep end. |

Try googling Dr Foster & Smith Website - they have life vest there. they show you how and where to take measurement so you get the right size. Not too expensive either. |
How soon we forget about tragic accidents Have all of you forgot about Spike and his tragic accident with a swimming pool? Don't take your Yorkie swimming........ or at least put a fence around your pool. R.I.P. - SPIKE | MySpace.com John |
