Can you remember when your yorkie reached their full height? 3 Attachment(s) I know there is alot of discussion on this site about yorkie's growth spurt and weight gain. I was wondering when did your yorkie reach their height? I have heard by 6 months they are fully grown then they fill out. But nothing about yorkies run normal so I was just wondering. My Oni is 5 1/2 months old and still short legged. He is solid like a rock and stocky. Prob will be over 7 pounds but was just wondering if he is suddenly going to grow legs like he did pounds. I am just trying to prepare myself for this gift unfolding before me. I cannot imagine him filling out anymore, he is so solid and bulky now. He is not overweight at all. I have some pictures to give you a idea of his structure. |
I personally do not think that a time can be set for the first year for them to stop growing, although i find that most of the time mine have their height & structure at about 6 months but do gain in weight a bit your little one is so cute and most likely will continue to have short legs but that is what makes him such a cutie Betty & Micah my love:aimeeyork |
Around one year of age... |
I have no idea since I'm on my first Yorkie still but yours sure is cute! |
3 Attachment(s) I know exactly what you mean. Paisley is also 5 1/2 months, and it seems like she is all legs right now. LOL. I wonder how much longer they are going to get. When is Oni's birthday? Paisley's was 12/17. It does seem odd how different every yorkie is. Preston is almost 2 now. We got him when he was 5 1/2 months and he was all round and in proportion, and I thought that he was probably close to as big as he was going to get. Boy was I wrong! He was 7 lbs. at 5 1/2 months and runs between 13-14lbs now. His body seems long, but as you said about Oni, he is all muscle and as stocky as they come. We knew he was going to be big because we got him from a rescue due to being "too big to be sold" but didn't expect him to be quite that big. Not that it is a problem, we love him just the way he is. Here are some pics of Paisley in all of her long legged glory! :D |
Snickers has not grown since he was about 6.5-7 months old. The only thing changing about him now is his hair color. He was 3.3 lbs at 6 months and now 5 months later....3.3lbs, sometimes 3lbs and sometimes 3.5lbs. Our little squirt!:) Snick & Viv |

Yes, I think it all depends. For example Teddy was born on June 6 2005. He was 4lbs. when we bought him in August 2005. He was about full grown by Thanksgiving, 9lbs. He has been 9lbs ever since! Our puppy Pippo was born December 23 2008. We bought him at the end of February at 1.5lbs. He just last week reached 3lbs. So if I had to guess around 6 months is about where they may stay. A friend of ours has an older yorkie that is around 6lbs and very stocky! As far as the legs growing longer, Im not sure. :p |
My "little" guy at almost 9 months is a stocky, cobby solid 9 pounds and about 7/8 inches tall. He hasnt gotten any taller since about the 6 month mark, but he has filled out. At his 4 months check up/neutering he was 5 pounds. So it took another 4 months or so for him to gain the other 4. He gained super fast as pup. He was went from 2.5 pounds to 5 pounds in 6 weeks. He is the same height as his father but out weighs his mom and dad by 5 pounds. lol. I wouldnt think your pup would get much taller but he will probably fill out more. |
2 Attachment(s) I was just wondering that. Laddy is 7 and a half months old and 7 and a half inches tall and looks all legs. Lolita is 7 inches and looks lots shorter but Laddy still has a lot of puppy coat and Lolita at 5 years old has full coat. I really think they will look a lot alike when he gets his mature coat. Lolita weighs 4lbs and Laddy 3.6. |
I've heard that too that until about 6-7 months they grow up, then they fill out... Your boy is soo cute!! My Momo is very stocky (cobby) too & he's got those darn cute short little legs that can't move fast enough for him!:D |

1 Attachment(s) I thought Suzi was going to be a big girl! At least over the 7lb's. She was already 3lbs at 9 weeks . now she is 15 months old and is at 7lbs . She is not stocky, but long. more of a leggy girl :) [ATTACH]279130 |
I know I have looked at alot of pictures of yorkies and even more than per say "weight" is not the difference as it is the size of the dog. Long legs and long body seems to make the big difference rather than weight. With all the hair, weight doesn't really show, of course unless you pick them up.LOL I am still amazed at how many difference shape and sizes these furbabies come in. Even the nose difference is an assortment of long and short. I can see how people could not tell some dogs are yorkies if they had not seen other "styles" of yorkies. Very interesting breed I have gotten myself into. I am definitely falling in love with the breed. |
your baby is so cute. when i was looking at his pictures, i just though, 'yorkies really come in all shape and sizes!" LOL milu is my first dog, so i can only tell you my experience with milu. the reason i say they come in different shape and sizes is because compare to your puppy, milu is very skinny and has longer legs. milu is a smaller yorkie, so what i have heard is that bigger yorkies get their growth spurts earlier on, and smaller ones get their growth spurts later on. not sure how true it is, but it was true for us. milu stopped growing at around 5 monthes, and didn't grow again till after 8 months. she is now 14 months old. and i am not sure if she will grow more or not. but i have heard that some yorkies dont' reach full size till 2 years old (again, not sure how true this is, just what people have told me) |
Not a yorkie but my maltipoo reached her full weight at 12 months (3 lbs 14 oz) |

Your baby is so cute. Every dog is different just like humans. Mika's parents were 5lb and 4lb. He is 7.5lbs at just 7mths. I still think he is really small at this weight/height. I'm glad he isn't lighter/smaller to be honest but I did think at the time that I was buying a lighter/smaller puppy when I 1st bought him, when he was going to be fully grown. |
Jemma is a Shorkie. Her Mom, s**tzu was 9 pounds, her Daddy, Yorkie was 6 pounds. Jemma is a week shy of 7 months and weighs 4 pounds. Her height is 8 1/2 inches, just measured her. Jemma weighed 2 pounds when she came home. She wasn't growing at all and I did not want a teeny puppy or a , what's it called, tea cup? Which doesn't really exist. I wanted health. I don't know if she will get bigger. She is at the stage of YIKES, what is it, lol. She is leggy and long. But looks skinny. IMHO that is. Cute? I think so. I think she is very pretty. She does have a undershot, which is very common of the s**tzu. However, her VERY HIGH activity level is going to kill me yet. She is stubborn. She is loveable. It took 6 months for her to get the hang of the pee pad. I think we're ok with that now. Fingers crossed. Jemma will be what she will be. I love her if she grew horns. Which I think she has now. I swear at times I see her running with a pitch fork. Carol and Jemma |
