| tatertot15 | 06-03-2009 08:30 AM | This is what I did to get him used to me leaving him, I took it in steps. I would leave him for a bout 30 minutes by himself then an hour then an hour and a half then 2 hours then 3 hours and just worked my way up. It's a gradual thing. You have to get them used to knowing you ARE going to come back for him, it is very hard on us and them. My bandit has bad seperation anxiety. He has gotten alot better but he still has it. So work with him. And if you think your going to fast then shorten the time your away from him and gradually work back up to it. Do this before you go back to work because if you don't he could end up with bad seperation anxiety too, and it can be very scary to see, I cried everytime I had to leave him and even when I came home because seeing him like that broke my heart, but I didn't have a choice I had to go to work. So just take baby steps.
Now when it came to pee pad training....about every hour or sometimes less if showing signs of having to go we would take him to his pee pad and say "go potty" or just say "potty", the shorter the better, and if he pee'd we would get really excited and say "GOOD BOY" we'd say it a few times and give him a treat. He was trained in no time. If he pee'd by the pad, like right next to it we still rewarded him because he meant to hit the pad but his aim was just off, he would have like 2 paws on and two off. He finally figured out he needed to be all the way on it. Other members have told me if you catch them in the act of peeing somewhere else just pick them up and put them on the pee pad so he'll eventually put together pee and the pee pad. Good Luck!! |
