My poor baby!! I have a new puppy, her name is Bella. She is 7 weeks old and weighs 2 lbs. I was away today and my DH I guess didn't make sure she ate today. When I got home I wormed her for the first time.. about 45 mins. later she started shaking, laying around, and kinda like half hiccuping... I am not sure if it is hypoglycemia, or if some of the wormer went down the wrong tube, or if she had a reaction to the wormer... I went to my neighbors and got some Nutrical for her and that stopped everything except the half hiccups.. I am worried :( BTW I will add a pic of my new baby soon!! |
she probably should have had something in her tummy before the worming went- make sure she has eaten next time before you do that. SHe is VERY young to be in her forever home- if you are at all worried about her call the vet ASAP |
I hope she is doing better if not I would take her to the vet she is very young and you don't want to take chances. Keep us posted. |
I hope your baby is feeling better. I would take her to the vet too if her symptoms after being wormed does not improve. I am not a veterinarian, but maybe she was having a reaction to the wormed medication. |
That's an awfully young pup to be away from it's litter mates! Hopefully, it's nothing severe but just a reaction to the wormer. I would take her to the vet, to rule out the possibility of hypoglycemia or other possible diagnosis's. Hopefully she is feeling better and has stopped the hiccups. :) |
I agree she is young... I normally wouldnt have gotten a pup so young, but the conditions she was living in was HORRID!!! She was the last pup they had, and I knew they wouldn't hold her, so I took her. She isn't papered or anything, which I don't care I took her because I fell in love :) They had not given her any shots, and I am sure the mother hasn't had hers (stupid ppl) so I am trying to get her caught up! After I posted she fell asleep for about an hour and a half, she still had the half hiccup things, so I watched her carefully while she sleeped lol. reminded me of when my babies where babies and watching them sleep to mack sure they were breathing! Well I woke her up and fed her again and took her out to potty and she us great!! :D:D:D she was wrestling w/the kittens and running around.. I am making her take it easy though, so I picked her up and cuddled her back to sleep :) Has anyone ever been told to leave sugar water down for their pup? My neighbor (the one i got the nutrical from) told me to do that.. Thanks for the well wishes!! I am going to call the vet in the am just to be safe.. I have to anyway my Zoe (8 yr old yorkie) was chewing on a bone and broke her tooth!! it is half hanging there! I dont know what to do so I am going to ask the vet which means a trip in and some xrays im sure! I am worried the root is still in her gum on the broken side.. ig it is i am sure that will mean dental surgery.. poor thing has had a rough life!!! |
I am happy that your Yorkie is feeling better. I agree with you about taking the dog to the vet tomorrow to make sure she is O.K. I heard about putting sugar or honey in the dog's water bowl too. My veterinarian told me to put honey in Josh's water bowl when he was a puppy. :) |
Good luck at the vet tomorrow for both of your babies! Since your new baby came from such a bad place, I'd take her to the vet often just for regular check ups. I never think it's wrong to be "too" safe =) |
Haven't heard of the sugar water with Yorkies but our vet had us do this once a week with our Pom's when they were little to stop hypo attacks. |

Well, I took them to the vet today, Bella is fine, she had palyed too hard and had not gotten enough to eat so the vet told me to make sure I was feeding a good puppy food.. which i am, but she thinks the cat food tastes much better lol. They gave Zoe a muscle relaxer and pulled her tooth. she has an antibiotic to take for a few days to fight infection, and they gave her prednisone for skin allergies. they wanted me to get comfortis for flea prevention (my neighbor has a butt load of dogs, so it is flea centeral around here...) I have 3 dogs now... it is over $80 for a box!!! i can not afford that they tried to pressure me into it telling me that there really isnt anything they could do for her allergies if i wasnt going to do anything about the fleas. I use frontline plus, but it doesnt last a month tends to wear off after a few weeks. Then when I was leaving zoe was sleeping in my arms and kinda woke up when i got up she started pawing the air... she was high lol.. well so ppl came over and kept trying to pet her and have their baby pet her!! I was like she is drugged up she isnt awake and kept moving away and they kept following I was like wtf!!! |
