So introducing my Yorkie pup to my current dog didn't go to well I walked my current dog up the street so I could introduce him to my yorkie off his territory. Well when my yorkie meet us my current dog started barking at him and my yorkie did the same . But the thing about it is that my yorkie never stopped. He was ready to fight. It was kind funny cause my current dog is like 10 times bigger than him. After awhile he wasn't even paying attention to him. He just wanted to keep on with the walk. Not my Yorkie. He wanted to attack!!! Im just going to keep them separate:rolleyes: |
I think that it's in there blood to act like that, my yorkie does that also to any dog he see's out in the street. It's like he wants to attack them, these little guys have that napolean complex.. where they think they are big in there own little world... they will stand up to any size dog.. I sometimes get scared cause you never know what the other dog might do to him cause he is so small.... |
Yes I would keep them seperated because Munchie could get hurt. When Laya was about 3 months old she went at my other dog like that but my dog was only 18 lbs but it still scared me to death. Yorkies have no idea how small they are. You really have to watch them for their own safety. |
Sorry it did not go well! It probably is best to keep your dogs separate. Maybe later they will get use to each other? |
Introduce slowly If you have a baby gate you could put it up separating the two dogs so they can't hurt each other but they can still see each other until they're okay with it. Try to pay more attention to the older dog so he won't get jealous... |
yorkies don't know they are small so they show no fear from a big dog. What breed is your other dog? |
Dogs should be introduced with the butt of the new dog to the nose of the established dog..... this is how they meet in the animal world. if you were to watch the Cesar Melan Show on the Animal Planet channel, you can learn alot about dog behavior. Of course since they were not introduced properly you will need to have a barrier between them or have someone hold the puppie close to the older ones nose and then reverse the situation. It only takea a few seconds for them to smell to see, hey who are you and where you from? Hopefully no mental memories will remain with the puppy. I hope the pup has had it's shots or they are atleast started BeFore you take it out walking around the neighborhood. He dosen't have an imunity built up yet and can get sick, like the other one did. So how old is this puppy? have you put his pictures up yet? I haven't been on all day so don't know? Good luck and remember that the puppy is just like a new baby...and needs extra protestion from the germes out there.. |
I am thinking of maybe getting another yorkie puppy. My Abby is 9 months old. I have never had 2 dogs at once. I am concerned. What to do if they don't like each other, don't get along. My home is very small so keeping them separate would be impossible. It would break my heart to have to give one up because of this. Anyone have any suggestions. I know there are a lot of people here that more than 1 dog. |
Training is everything. It will take a lot of time and you will need to be very vigilant to train your Yorkie to BEHAVE. It is not funny or cute. It is dangerous. My Yorkie and my Russel live with 6 Greyhounds and 2 bassit hounds. You need to be the leader and be firm yet gentle. There is no excuse for dogs to need to be seperated. TRAINING |

Separate them deff. Eventually im sure they will be good friends. The first meeting is always the hardest. |
Well today I went on the deck with the two and my current dog was soooo cool. He just looked like he wanted to smell him. My yorkie still was acting like he wanted to attack while my other dog was just going about his business. Im starting to think it him that im going to have to worry about. He might cause my other dog to attack. |

First off, on a walk... you need to act very calm and act like it's no big deal. When Munchie starts to bark and carry on, stop that behavior. That kind of behavior could hurt him in the long run. If he goes up into a mean dogs face doing that, he's going to get eaten. So teach him early on how to approach dogs. Let him know he can not approach a dog in a hyper state (Still working w/ Jackson on the hyper thing! He just gets so excited with other dogs. About 98% of the time now, he's very good about just smelling, etc) The proper way for dogs to greet is to smell each other and check each other out calmly. Look at their body language to make sure a fight won't errupt. Also, I find leashes create more tension, usually because of the handler/owner, even without you knowing you are transmitting your energy to them. So many dogs are GREAT off leash with other dogs but when they are on a leash, they feel the need to lunge and attack! Just let them do their thing. |
