OMG he is so cute on top of that pool table, does it really matter????? |
Yorkie History He is a perfect little dog. If your not going to breed him it doen't matter what his weight is. Now for the question. Is he 100% Yorkie. Study the history of the Yorkie Breed and you will find that breeders have been tweeking these dogs for the past 100 years. Old genes pop up from time to time presenting some of their ancestry. I know a breeder in Portland who has 23 dogs on property, all from very good stock, and no 2 dogs look or present the same. I've been told and have since observed that 25% of progeny actually develop the show ring coat. You will find variations in coat texture and pigment. His ears do seem a bit large, and his snout looks wide but I think that is the photo not the real dog, lenses tend to do that up close. My Rocky's hair had a curl to it until he was one. He is now 2-1/2 right at 7lb, which he hit a 8 months, and his coat has changed twice, he is finally turning blue, and clearing the black in front of his ears. |
He is so cute! He looks like my Jonah....Anyway, you think you have issues go look at my photos....lol! I think he's great! Is he registered? Not that it matters but just curious because AKC does DNA to prove parentage... |
3 Attachment(s) My Yorkie is 5 months old and 6 1/2 lb. He was suppose to not be over 3. I quess you can never tell. Oni's ears are half way up and I am taping them. He looks alot like yours. He has short legs which makes him look smaller but he has a very stocky body. If I would put him in a schunazner cut I think he would look like a schunazner . |
I have one beautiful whopping 16 lb. yorkie boy and he is all yorkie... look at my profile, your baby looks alot like my Tootie did :) |

he looks like a purebred yorkie to me...he's precious |
He is a beautiful dog! I have one that was supposed to be 8 and ended up 20 lbs. Papers yes. Akc yes! Who can tell? We love him just the same. I did see the mother and not the father who was supposed to be 3 lbs. What can you do? Just love them |
2 Attachment(s) He is adorable what ever he is. My little girl is 9 1/2 pounds. Her mother was 10 and her dad was 5 pounds. So you never can tell what you might get. The same parents had a litter after mine that had a couple of boys that ended up being 14 pounds. And she has one ear up and one ear down. They come in all shapes and sizes, coloring, etc. Enjoy him. |
Looks like a yorkie to me :) My Jackson is nearly 14lbs at 7 mo. old. |
Your baby is beautiful, I don't think he is a mix, some puppies coats are like that when they are little, he probably has a cotton coat. Some yorkies get bigger than parents because of the lines behind them, his grandparents or grant grandparents could have been larger than 7 pounds. He is adorable! It really doesn't matter size as long as you love him:) |
He looks like all Yorkie to me. Cotton coat has wavy hair. |
Looks yorkie to me.. but I must say they are called throw backs.. from being bred down.. and even show breeders can have throw backs that are young puppies months old that are 7 pounds.. so size is not always going to be the same as parents or less...I have seen people with litters.. two teenie and one rather large..my vet would call this a throw back.. that is unless both parents were large to begin with... I think if you love him that is the important thing.. my daugter bought a yorkie years ago.. and she was not a yorkie.. she is a yorkie poo or bichon in her.. but she is loved.. but my daughter back then felt very betrayed by the breeder... This is another reason why a breeder should only have one breed of dog and then those accidents do not happen... anne |
