First, wait and see your Bailey may not be a barker. I have two yorkies. Ginger barks at everything, Bernie almost never barks. They have completely different personalities. I tried the can with Ginger and for awhile it worked. Then she decided it didn't mean anything and just barked write over the noise of the can. So...I switched to using a little water bottle. Funny, she loves playing in the hose/sprinkler/babypool and will attack the water coming out of the hose end (having a blast). She does not like being sprayed by the water bottle. Now, all I usually have to do is spray it make sure she knows I have it. Barking doesn't even start. So, if your baby's a barker, there are options. Wait and see.:):):) |
Socialization! That him out to meet people & smells everyday. Introduce him to as many of your neighbors as possible...come on who can resist a puppy! |
Jemma is a tail banger, not a barker. She gets so excited I don't think she can wag her tail and bark at the same time. She loves people. Never barks, only at me when she's trying to tell me something. But I have used the can to calm her down when people come in the house. Good thing she's small. If she were big, I'd never have to dust. She'd swish everything clean with her tail. |

Thanks for all the input everyone!! As for socialization, I was advised not to take him anywhere until he is at least 16 weeks old and has completed his shots..I will have to hope for the best;) |
Congratulations on your new baby. I think you will be fine. Pablo is my barker and has the most annoying high pitched bark but he triggers everyone else to bark so maybe with one you wont have a barking problem. But if you do get a can and fill it with pennies and shake it when he barks...I will also distract him by placing him in another room. |
