trouble with topknot!!! okay, well i have read many other threads about topknots but i didnt really pay much attention since maisy's fur on her head was always to short. well, now i think it's time to try getting a topknot on her! i have tried but she wont stay still enough to get it tight enough and it ends up falling out after 2 minutes!! the one the groomer put in lasted the longest about 3 hours! does anyone have any advice?? o and should the fur be wet or dry? :aimeeyork |
That Fun Top Knot Flipping and Flopping.. Aww...Maisy ...you have the cutest advatar face! Your a doll~ :) Sophie has the same problem with the topknots...her hair is thin still and they slide out.. I have the best luck with just a latex band...no bow.. That at least give her the feeling of her hair being up... ;) I hope later it will thicken and grow more..and things will stay in... I do the bows for going out..thats about it.. |
I just did a search for you - typed in Topknot and found many threads...but you said you have been reading so I can try to offer a tiny bit of help... with my girls - I started with PetEdge Bows - I bought a BUNCH (pack of 50) and they have pretty strong elastic and stay in for hours - On Cheri I always have to twist the band 3-4 times - I really love their bows for everyday use. there are LATEX bands you can get anywhere that work just as well as the bows - It's just a matter of practicing - don't make it too tight that they hurt and don't make it so loose that it falls out. I started with small amounts of hair to get the girls used to bows and nothing big on her head - she'll know it's there and want it out....so....little bows to start :) GOOD luck ! |
Well if your problem is getting her to stay still long enough here is how i do it. It's kinda strange but it works for me. I sit down with my legs out in a "V", I started out sitting on the floor it may be the easiest until you get the hang of it. Then sit the pup in between your legs right up by you facing away. Then I place my right, you can use you left if you must, leg over my other, in kind of a half indian style way. This leg is right in front of the pup so it will hold her in place while your hands are free to work with the hair. This was the best way for me even early on Reagan would sit still in this position. She usually just lays her chin on my leg until I'm done. I use elastics, I'm starting to use just bows now because she's quite messing with them. Also I twist it three times and then when I'm dont I will place my hand on the hair on her head and pull the band just a little bit to loosen it just to make sure it isn't too tight. Besides that the best advice I can give it just keep praciticing. Eventually you'll become a pro and she'll get to where she doesn't even notice them(mines not quite there yet though, but I've heard its true). |
