Personally I would try to find a breeder that breeds only Yorkies and doesnt mix breeds but thats just MHO. |
Hi there, welcome to YT. First, you must get a pup from a LOCAL BREEDER!. I looked at the site you mentioned. They are from the Inland Empire. I lived there before, no offense to anyone that lives there now, but ther are plenty of puppymills in the 951 (riverside county, california)! Get your pup from Canada where you are from and make sure you see tha parents! Pet shops and websites= no no no!!!!! |
thanks for the reply capt nonnie. i can't find any yorkie breeder here in vancouver. could you recommend me to someone here in YT selling a yorkie, im willing to spend for shipping + puppy. help me please.. |

Hopefully some Canadians will be along to help you find a breeder. I've only been on YT a few months, and I've already seen a number of stories of shipped puppies gone wrong. I agree that you should definitely buy from someone within driving distance of you (even if it's several hours). It could save you a lot of heartache. Also, welcome! |
I LOVE mixed breeds and have a little Shorkie. Looked 6 years to find what I really wanted. She melted me and won my heart. She's my best little buddy. I see nothing wrong with the mixed breeds today but, it is so important to learn about each parents breed. And testing and health. If you like this breeder, open up a communication with her. Before buying her pups. Although that really doesn't mean a whole lot either. I like to see if and how long before they call back. And have a list of questions to ask. YT members will give you a list of questions you can ask. Though the breed might be a mix, are the parents registered. How many litters has Mom had,and her age? And look for a health guarantee. For 1,200 you should at least get a year. I myself, would not settle for less than a year no matter what the price is. It is really good to see the parents. And to see the place where the baby is raised. I ended up getting Jemma without seeing the parents and had her shipped too. Knocking on wood, no problems....yet. Continue to search the internet looking for her kennel name. If people had problems, it'll crop up. A lot of times puppy mills don't sell their pups for 1,200. It's very hard to find a good breeder today. Research, research. Even if you find breeders on here, maybe you won't care for the pups, or something else might bother you. Don't go with them just because they are in Canada. I'm not bashing any breeder here from Canada or US. So I don't want fingers pointing at me, lol. We do have a page here where YT breeders post their pups for sale. You might want to look there Just keep looking and asking questions until you are satisfied. Good luck on your search! Hi there mteak I see you're from Vancouver found this site maybe you could check it out don't know anything about them but you could give them a call and maybe go see them if not to far from you good luck xo Fraser Valley Yorkies - About Us |
Nice website, I would check them out!!! |
Michelle at Fraser Valley is great to work with. I haven't purchased a puppy from her, but have been in contact with her several times. The other place to check is Kijiji. There are new ads for the Vancouver area every day. Vancouver yorkshire pets, dogs & cats for sale / wanted - Kijiji Vancouver Michele :-) |
Don't buy off Kijiji whatever you do. No reputable breeder would ever sell puppies via that nightmare site. Where does Fraservalley say they are Canadian Kennel CLub registered? In Canada, reputable breeders are members in good standing with the Canadian Kennel CLub. You can even go to the CKC website and phone and ask them if a particular breeder is a member or not. Pay attention to breeders that advertise teacup, extra small, breed for 2 -5 lbs, that is NOT a reputable breeder. Nor do they offer males at public stud to anyone that will pay a stud fee. A reputable breeder will also have Championships on a large percentage of the dogs they have in their breeding program and are aware of health testing issues. There are Canadians on the YTCA website, Yorkshire Terrier Club of America There are reputable breeders around, look for them. |
Rather than condem the entire 951 area code or the Inland Empire, look for breeders that only have one breed, don't advertise teacups or any other red flags. And yes, it is always recommended you go to the breeder's home and meet the breeder and see the parents of the puppy. That being said yes, I live in the Inland Empire, I have a 951 area code on my cell phone--not my choice--and yes I only breed one breed of dogs and no teacups.....and yes I always allow visitors to see team Furry. |

Several red flags on the site: --mixing breeds --advertising teacups and breeding dogs to be very small --multiple breeds I would never consider a dog from someone who practices even ONE of these things. I would keep looking. These days you have to be very persistant and patient in trying to find a reputable breeder as there are so many jumping on the Yorkie/designer mutt bandwagon and breeding without any regard to the health and well being of the dog and the breed as a while. It just takes some time to sort out the good from the bad. |
Yeah, def. go with someone who breeds only Yorkies. That's a big one! I would also ask for their vet's name so that you can call to get a reference for them. I didn't think of it when I got mine but I wish I had...it is very important! |
