Panicky, Triple Digits, Power Outages :( The Temps, are nearly over 100' degrees right now, and it is windy outside too. The AC is on , but the power seems to be starting to flicker off and on:eek: Last week we lost power twice in one day> For hrs at a time, and it was not nearly as hot, it was in the 90's. We are on the 2nd floor. I am a bit freaked out if it goes out again, today. My Little Suzi , and ideas what I can do? to keep her cool , and not sick? Quick answers pleasse, I am aready anxious :( |
If you have a fan, place a pan of cold water (with ice if possible) in front of it. It's an old-fashioned way of cooling. Also, a cold wet towel on the back on the neck is a cooling technique for humans...not sure about dogs. Well, duh...I guess if you don't have power, you can't run a fan. What was I "not" thinking? |
Keeping Little Ones Cool Wet down your furbaby with room temperature water. Ice cubes. Ice cubes in water. Lay down on tiled floor. Use fans. Invest in a "cold" bandanna, cool vest or cool mat. Available on the internet. Soak in water; stays cool for a few hours. Have plenty of water available. Chilly Bone. No exercise. |
POwer has been out at my brother's house, a mile away> Off and on. Thanks for the fast resopnses! KEEP EM coming please, I am holding my breath! |
I remember years ago I had stayed with my one of my girlfriends at her parents house and they didn't have air conditioning. It would get so stinkin hot in that house we would take showers (cooler) and not dry off.. just put on loose fitting clothes.. so maybe a nice cool bath if you all get too overheated. |
I think I would try to make extra ice and place it in a big cooler if you have one. Also I would probably fill the bathtub so you can cool your baby off if needed. Oh, I guess the power doesn't effect the water so you wouldn't need to fill it. Good Luck, hope you all stay cool. |
If nothing else, keep her head cool. Use a cool wash cloth and keep her head wet. Watch the ears, no water in those though. lol Some ice in the water. Not too too cold. Hot temps, ice cold water could make her little tummy rumble. She could get the squirts, if you know what I mean. And if you really want to treat her like a queen, you can get a newspaper and sit on the floor and fan her, just/joking...but....you'd probably do it, hahaha Carol and Jemma |
Maybe make an ice pack to put in her bed. If it gets too hot maybe take her somewhere they allow dogs and cool off some. Good luck |
If you can help her blood to stay cool, it will help her to stay cool. Ice in a towel around the front of her neck will be the best place to help cool the blood. Plus all the other good advice you've been given. You will be amazed at how well a pan of ice and some manual fanning will help to cool you down. If she or you, really starts to get stressed from the heat just fan yourselves in front of a pan of ice and it will help greatly. |
Does your car have air? You couold go for a drive. I've also had really good results by putting a water bottle with ice water nearby to curl up with (I ususally keep a bottle of water in the freezer for emergencies or for when I go riding). Good luck. |
Putting ice cubes in Suzi's water dish with her water will help also |
I was thinking the same as the other poster the bandanas that go around their neck, a little tub or something of water, some cool towels that are wet |
Well, fortunately, the power stayed on last night. However, their was a severe thunder, and lightning strom that rolled in our area > It was quite rare in this area! WE even kept have ALert systems blare out on our TV's . OUr town is very tiny, nestled over a hill . I live in the back and have a large field behind me, and hills< That is where the Lightning show was, and it was major. I stood on my balcony in AWE. My son, would not come outside, and i would not allow Suzi to go out either. |
Oh girl sorry to hear this, maybe try to get some of the cooling pads for her, you already got good advice here:thumbup: |
I would spray her with cool water now and again that should help |
