Very Aggressive towards other dogs! My Gizmo is 6 months now and he is very aggressive towards other dogs when he sees them. Non stop barking and crying and running around like crazy! I tried shaking a jar with pennies and that didn't work. Will getting him neutered really make him less aggressive? |
Neutering will help but a you may wish to enroll him in socialization classes. As a breed all terriers are very territorial towards other dogs if they aren't socialized quite frequently |
Well I was in the vet with Mika on Monday morning and there were 2 Bull mastifs and a springer spaniel that he wanted to savage, but on his meeting of a lovely large white cat who he thought he would also give a hard time, well when the cat hissed and arched it's back to him he decided he wasnt as tough as he thought he was. :D |
Yes I think it will. Did you socialize him from an early age? The more he meets people and other dogs as a puppy the better. How about trying puppy classes, are there any in your area? I lucky my mum and sister live near me and they both have dogs, I still took her to puppy classes just for the social side.:D |
Layla used to be the same way- because I was not "in charge" and she knew that- so she felt she had to take charge of the situation and protect me. We have changed MANY things and now it is clear to her that I am in control and she dosn't have to worry about that anymore and she is MUCH better with other dogs. Also, i don't get stressed anymore when we are going to approach other dogs- i used to and she could sense that... |
Buddy was the same way only his didn't start until 1yr. I made sure he was well socialized and was shocked out of the blue at 1yr old he went for a neighbor's dog. Down hill after that. Every large dog he saw he wanted a piece of. Over the years and with patience he has turned himself around. Now he gives, most dogs a chance. If one barks first tho all is lost. He will go right into attack mode. Only large dogs set him off. Today at the vet's he tried to made friends with a very large Irish setter and Lab. Go figure:confused: |
Edie is very aggressive when on leash, but if I let her go, she is fine and just wants to sniff. It's a dilemma for me, because if I do not know the other dog, I don't want to let her loose at what may be a dangerous dog. So I keep her on leash and she continues to bark. Any suggestions? |
Thanks for the suggestions everyone! Gizmo's older brother Thor was put to sleep a couple months ago (he lived a very very long life) so Gizmo only really lived with him for a couple months. He was never aggressive towards Thor though, all he ever did was jump up and lick his face like crazy! Maybe I will try the puppy classes. Does anyone know how the classes are at PetSmart? |
