To owners who have more than 1 yorkie I just got my second yorkie. I named him Chewie. He is a tiny little thing. I will post pics of him shortly. He is gonna be turning 3 months old soon. I just have a few question hopefully someone can give me advice on. My female yorkie Cookie is 1 years old, she's very shy. She has been getting along pretty well with the new little guy and actually really played for the first time. The only thing is sometimes the little guy wants to continue playing non stop and Cookie dosen't. Should I let her tell him in her own way that she doesn't want to play or should I just seperate them? She does seem to get really annoyed sometimes. And other thing is he started humping Cookie already, I know it's a dominance thing and I seperate him everytime I see him do it. He will get fixed as soon as he is old enough. Is there anything I can do in the mean time? Thanks in advance. |
She will let him know when she has had enough... same with the humping. Just let them be puppies! They will sort it out before you know it! |
Boo was 5 yrs old when we got Gracie Ruth at 3 months of age. We let them work through most things, but kept a close eye on them. Puppies can be such bullies sometimes. Boo, at first, always had the furniture he could jump up on when he got tired of G. But once she learned how to get up there he really didn't have a place to go to get away. I would watch Boo's body language and just always made sure that if he was done playing that I redirected G to other activities. I feel it's the same principle as potty training, don't set them up to fail. I didn't want G's playing to get to the point that Boo thought he had no option but to snap or fight. Boo has the patience of Job with G and Yogi and I work hard to be sure he understands how special he is to me and that he can say No in the right way, and I will make sure the puppies listen and learn. |
That is the exact same situation I have with my two! They seem to be working things out as time progresses, but I'm interested to see what others have to say. |
Thanks for the advise. They have been getting along alot better now. Its funny sometimes cause Cookie would be done playing and I distract Chewie to something else and the next thing I know Cookie is right behind Chewie, who gets these little guys. |
I am so happy I found this thread! I am visiting the newest member to our family on Monday. And I bring him home in two weeks. I am very nervous how they will get along. But after reading this, I am feeling more confident. I am still not very sure about the whole humping thing... I'd rather not see it happen but I guess it is a dog thing. Congrats on the new addition to your family. I look forward to seeing what more people say. |
