Strange behavior?? So I am not exactly sure how to describe this but out 13week old Yorkie is doing something very strange and I can't figure out why... He takes his back legs and skids them backwards on the carpet a lot like a a cat would after going to the bathroom, the only thing is he is not doing this after going to the bathroom he just does it randomly. Does anyone know why he might be doing this? Thank you |
Is he trying to cover up were he went potty? |
I don't think so I can tell when he potties and that doesn't seem to be what's going on. I am puzzled???? He is the 2nd yorkie we have had we just got him on Friday and had to take him to the animal ER on Sunday :( When we went and picked him out everything was great the people were great he we healthy all was well.......then on Friday (10 days later) when we went to pick him up I guess they weren't expecting us and .........OMG how sad what a different sight he looked like he hadn't been out of his kennel since the day we were there (10 days before) and since then we are kind of figuring out it was a puppy mill :( We still took him even after seeing him like that I guess because neither my husband or I could stand to see him like that. Just so sad he seems to have quite a few problems to include not eating and I am having to force feed him water to keep him hydrated. He is always doing this almost choking thing then he sneezes.....We have him on an antibiotic and they pumped some fluids into him at the ER.....just so sad these people make me sooooooo ANGRY!!!! So anyway I was just trying to see if the "skidding out" thing was something to worry about? |

Humm, my Suzi sometimes will kick out her back legs , when she's excited, sometimes, especially when on the grass. However, skidding out? you mean actually rubbing his legs on the carpet? Suzi also stretches her back legs after waking up , but I think that is still different then what your referring to. He's only 13 weeks old and has been through so much:( my gosh, I hope he can recover from these illnessess. I am very glad you took him right away to the vet. Maybe he will outgrow the behavior and it is not anything serious. |
My Ella does that as well. I read somewhere that it is a marking thing: dogs have scent glands in their paws, and rubbing them into the ground spreads their scent. Ella does it a lot when her little brother, Jack, has a bully stick or toy that she wants. |
Sorry you are having so many health issues with your new puppy. It really does matter where you get them. Unfortunately some of the worst know how to pretty them up for the sale. By the time you learn different, your heart is with them and it is just too hard to walk away. Sounds like you are getting some good help from the vet and hopefully he will be healthy again in no time. If as the others said, he is kicking like he's covering up his pee/poop, it is normal. I had not seen Ben do it inside until we had the puppies. Now, he will occasionally do it towards them, with his rear to them, sort of giving a dominant signal to them that he is king of the house. I guess he feels he has to exert his authority. |
