A CLOSE UP view of a Cottony Coat
 

As much as I love my girls - and love posting pictures - I'm not posting this to show her off !! :D

Several people have asked me lately "What does a Cottony Coat consist of" and "How do I groom/bathe Chanel" or "How do I take care of long hair on the girls"? ...

Well....while I was trimming Chanel yesterday and working on her FEET which she HATES being touched - I thought I would share a real close-up of her and her coat - She IS cottony - and this is what it looks like when a yorkie is full grown.

(By the way - her feet are now trimmed after the wrestling match that I WON yesterday) :D

Chanel is 3 years old. She loves to play outside so I really have to stay on top of her grooming to keep her looking good. She gets wet playing and can look REALLY unkept if I don't watch out....Some days she has more branches & leaves on her than the trees do. .

I DO thin her hair and I DO have to brush her every day - I also use good hair products and leave on sprays - I use Chris Christensen System Products for her - and Plush Puppy 'Reviva Coat' foam that leaves them really soft.

Cheri on the other hand is easy - She has a silky coat....

Looks like Toto's hair!! Sometimes she looks tangled before she is outta my lap! ;)

haha !! Toto is a DOLL ! I don't really have a hard time with Chanel getting tangled - she can be brushed and look pretty good for a long time but if I don't brush her every day - she tends to get those annoying little stuck together hair tangles - like little ropes ?

Funny thing is - MY OWN hair will do that too when it's really long - I'd have dreadlocks if I didn't cut it :eek: I could be Bob Marleys Sister with long hair

THIS picture was at ONE year old - she got a haircut after this picture was taken and this was using just Plain Tearless Puppy Shampoo.

:eek: THAT'S Toto's hair!!! :p And you're right .... that hair has to be brushed every day!! I am soooo glad that I started brushing when she was just about 1.5 lbs.!!! Didn't have that much to brush, but I wanted her to like being brushed!! OK ... so she still doesn't exactly "love" it, but she doesn't give me any problem. She just has an expression that looks like ... "I will be so glad when we get through!!" ;)

My granddaughter [16] loves to mess with Toto's hair! In July, I had to rush my Mom to the hospital [ambulance] so I had to leave Toto [AND two grands, Abbi/2 & Austin/6] with Kayla! When we got back, Kayla had "entertained" the grands with a "new doo" for Toto!! The ambulance guys were absolutely hooting, it was sooo funny!! Kayla and taken about 30-40 of those tiny little baby barettes and put Toto's hair up all over!! She looked like a little porcupine!! ;)

I can related Villette! Andy and Barney both have cottony coats and they are double the work then regular coats are. These two are the first ones that I've had that have this kind of coat and it drives me crazy :eek: I could brush, brush, brush, and since they all play so hard, it takes them about 5 minutes and they're back to where I started. It's a coat type that you just have to stay on top of I guess. I love those pics Chanel, and you could show her off anytime, she's beautiful!...

LOL !! That's SUCH a cute story about your grandchildren ! I sure wish you had pictures of that !! Sometimes I feel like I'm still playing with dolls myself - I do Chanels hair in all sorts of funny or pretty styles....

Villette, my first yorkie (Molly the love of my life) had a cottony coat and loved to
play outside so I finally cut her back and she enjoyed life more or seemed to anyway.

I agree and Chanel HAS been short - but what I do now is thin and keep the longer hair trimmed up - she thinks she's all that after a bath and brush - but I agree - SHORT hair is way easier with cotton coats.

I debate with myself and have come close to cutting it off....then I chicken out at the last minute....but soon she may be going in for a professional cut if I can find yet ANOTHER groomer I like.

Villette this picture reminds me of Sophie right now. She still has a lot of dark in her face and on her head. I can see that Chanel lightened up. That gives me hope that Sophie will lighten up some more. She is 10mths.

She did - after she got her first haircut lots of light came out in her hair - Sophie is a doll and looks very similar in coat to Chanel

I wish I labeled all my pictures by age now - I have lots but aren't sure of how old Chanel was in many of them - That one I'm sure she was a year old cause I DID name it :)

Thank you so much for the nice words - yorkiegal719....have you ever tried the CC Ice on Ice for your boys ? Or Plush Puppy Reviva Coat ? They are really great products for cottony coats and keeps the hair from tangling or matting

That's a good idea. I'm going to starting naming the files with her age at the end. She's almost a year old now though, couldn't you have said something earlier?

Gracie's hair is just like that! She is 14 months old and is still completely black and gold, no change to silver yet.
