Poop problem My yorkie is 2+ years old and my husband is about to divorce me if I don't rectify her problem. She's great about urinating on the pad but she poops on every area rug instead of the pad. She's made some connection with seeing an area rug as a pad. She has never pooped on my tile or wooden floors. Sometimes she does poop on the pad and she knows that she'll get rewarded. When she poops on one of my rugs, she'll immediately walk around with her ears back and eventually hide when I approach the rug. She definitely knows that she did something wrong. I have even tried using the spray repellent but that does not work. I don't know what else to do!!!! My husband and I are tired of walking through landmines. HELP ME PLEASE!! |
I understand your frustration. Roxie also likes my throw rugs. I had a pee pad down and she'd rather go on the rug grrrr. I rarely find poop but she always manages to get a pee puddle by me. I picked up all of the throw rugs and that's when she started using the pad. Now that it's nice outside again she's ten times better about going outside. Is your yorkie trained to go outside at all? If so you might want to start a strict potty routine. If you rely soley on the pee pads you probably have to close her off to a room with the pee pad in it untill she starts getting the hang of it. I've worn out quite a few throw rugs washing them all of the time but at least they can be washed lol!! |
I find that dogs who are pee-pad trained often have a problem differentiating between pads and rugs. Not always the case but happens a lot it seems. Is there NO way you could begin training her to go outside? If not, I would suggest treating her like a puppy again for a while. Confine her to an x-pen or to certain rooms without carpet or rugs. A kitchen or something. Gate it off somehow. Begin potty training all over again. Treat her EVERY time she goes on the pad and watch her closely. If she looks like she's gonna poop, pick her up and place her on the pad. When she goes, praise praise praise and treat treat treat. I would do this for 30 days until she is consecutively going on the pad all the time, both poop and pee. Then slowly give her more freedom! |
I agree. Confine her to a small area without rugs and since she is already 'pad trained', in that she knows what to do, I don't think it will take long to retrain her. She just got confused.....happens to me all the time. PS After you feel she has got it, before you reenter her to the rest of the house, you might put down a rug in her space to see what she will do. Just a thought. |
This may be a bit inconvenient, but we buy those lagre boxes of pads from Sam's. They're really for adults, but we use them for Tucker. We don't have a problem with Tucker using the pads. However, you might put a pad on each area rug. Tucker's mom |
