I think I have a problem? When I got my puppy, I was told he was a Yorkie. His papers say he is a Yorkie. I'm starting to think he is a Silky Terrier. My aunt has two Yorkies and when I take mine over there, he looks huge compared to her's. I don't know what to do? |
There are big yorkies. How old is he? How much does he weigh? How old are your aunts yorkies and how much do they weigh? Do you have a pic you could post? if you don't know how to post a pic you could e-mail it to me and I would gladly post it for you. |
 There are yorkies that are bigger in size so that doesn't really mean anything. Maybe he is just a really big boy. The standard says they should not exceed 7lbs but many people have some that are much bigger than that. |
Also how long ago did you get him? |
Just because your yorkie is bigger does not make it a silkie. They come in extra small, small, medium, and large. :D Don't worry. OK? |
My dog is one year old. He weights about 8 or 9 pounds. He is very long compared to my aunt's. Her dogs are 2 yrs. old and maybe 5 yrs. old. They weight around 5 pounds. |
I got him last Sept. |
If you look up each of them, I think Silkies have almond shaped eyes and yorkies have round. Also a silkie's hair will not grow as long as a yorkie. 1 year might not be old enough to tell hair length, especially if it has been cut. 9 pounds is not that big for a yorkie, many are much bigger. More to love. |
Really that's not bad, or uncommom. I believe there are some on here that weigh as much as 17lbs. Also I wanted to say Welcome to YT, there are so many friendly people here. Hope you enjoy.. |
Thanks for your help! |
Just join in the conversations and enjoy yourself and stop doubting your yorkie. Glad to have you here. |
