Where are you at? To me this sounds high only because, I don't know if you've been following my thread about my dog. I will post a link to the thread rather than go through it again. But when I called this evening to check on her and find out the charges as of then they were $330 now it may be more when I pick her up tomorrow if they didn't put in the charge for her stay tonight. This also includes two teeth extractions. Good Luck. I would call around to different vets and see what kind of an estimate they will give you. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17196 |
Geez, where do you live? That is an outrageous amount. Have you checked any other vets? |

NC Spay costs.. Quote:
I was quoted $85 for the spay $30 for the blood panel $12 for the post injection pain medication shot This is pretty typical for this area..not sure where your located. I use to live in WA State and the vet care was soooo much higher there~ |
Granted, I live in the sticks and prices are alot cheaper here but Lily also stayed 2 nights and it was $45 |

I paid almost $400 for Buddha's neutering and he didn't stay the night. I don't know how they could possibly do it for $45 and have an assistant, do the pre op blood work and give pain meds. |

When I lived in OC it was almost 300 for my female pom. Then I moved to Corona and my female chi was like 60. They get you with the blood work. That's what the majority of the cost is. My vet here pretty much doesn't do it. The majority of dogs do not have issues. He does test when the dog is elderly or has a history of allergies or other issues. I know that there will be a lot of people saying they wouldn't get the dog fixed w/o bloodwork, but 4 out of my 6 dogs were fixed by him and there were NO problems. I would call around a bit more. Or you can PM me and go to my vet out here in Norco. I have had many friends from OC commute out here because the prices are so good. My pom's teeth cleaning was 75 and the OC vet wanted 200. Once again, bloodwork. And before anyone replies, please dont' get on me about bloodwork. I trust my vet whole heartedly. I have been going to him now for 4 years and when I grew up in Upland he was our family vet for 15. I have never had anything bad happen with him. That's a pretty good record. |
Bronx was neutered a couple of weeks back for $166. I know a spay is more expensive. He also had one tooth pulled, but I think they said that was $9. I do believe it is much more expensive there, too. |
I paid close to $500 for Bella's spay. It was for blood work prior to the spay, the spay itself, meds and hospital stay. |
That's pretty expensive.. the most mine has ever cost was for my female cat.. it was 110 because we had her declawed. 70 for spay, 40 for declaw |

Wow $400 and no overnight stay. That to me is high. There was a vet in the area we used to live in. In his older years granted. He would spay/neuter cats still but not dogs. He said that cats were for whatever reason easier and would just charge people what the supplies cost him, he wouldn't charge any extra. He told my mom it was because he had been doing it for so long and that he wasn't in it for the money that he had more than enough money for him and his family. My mom had two cats fixed and I'm thinking for both of them it was around $60. So sometimes you do find them out there. They are people that are just doing as a service to their community and for the love of the animals. You definitely don't find that anymore but, like you said they have their staff that has to be paid as well. So you can't blame them cost of living is different everywhere and that is really what dictates what people charge for any services yet, I'm sure that there are some people out there that are greedy just like in anything else. Sorry to ramble and if I got off topice here. |
