Is this ok? Usually when I take Lucas in the car, I put him in his carrier. Yesterday, it was nice and warm and for the drive to the petplanet store, I had his harness on, and attached his leash and wrapped the leash around the headrest of the passenger seat. There was enough slack for him to just look out the open window, and only enough slack for him to be in the passenger seat. Is this ok? He seemed to really enjoy having his little nose out the window, I just want to make sure this is safe. Thanks for your input! :) |
The best thing of course is having your pup in a carrier in the rear seat. However, as long as your aware that if you slam on your breaks you pup could go flying so be careful he is attached safely and can't fly off the seat. Buddy rides in the passanger seat with a seat belt on and I always worry about being hit and the air bag releasing. It's a scary thought but he won't stay in the back alone and certainly won't fit into a carrier. |
Bailey will not sit anywhere but in my lap... I'm terrified of being hit and having the airbags go off but i'm always aware of how he's sitting, incase I need to move him quickly. |
I used to do this with Jackson (tying the leash around the seat) because he LOVES sticking his nose out the crack of the window. But, he ended up figuring out how to un-do the leash from around the seat so I went on eBay and bought a harness/leash thing that actually buckles into the seatbelt. I feel bad now because he can't reach the window with the leash on but I always roll the back windows down for him and his little nose is up in the air the whole time! I'm gonna have to figure something out though so he can reach the window at least a little bit. He prefers sitting in the back seat. |
The only safe way for your dog to travel in the car is in the backseat in a carseat or safety harness. If he is not secure, he will become a projectile if you have to slam on your brakes or are involved in an accident. Not only will he be injured, but he can injure others in the car. Dogs should never ride in the front because of the airbags. Too many dogs have been killed when airbags deployed. They can deploy at only 20 mph.
