my porkie yorkie My poor Brittany is overweight at 8.9lbs.We have tried diets and they dont seem to work. She eats science diet light,1/3 cup am and pm.She still hasn't lost any weight.I try taking her on walks but she turns into a little mule and sits down. She should be about 5lbs.Should I fed her even less? The poor baby LOVES to eat.Food is her favorite thing in life. Any suggestions?I'm concerned about her health. |
Try green beans and sliced, peeled apple for treats. In the heat of Fl I also give mine chipped ice in their water bowls, they go for it and it fills them up. I switched from Science Diet to Royal Canin and Innova after mine became adult dogs, not sure if that matters, SD is a good food but it might have more fat, etc. Also, if your baby has a lot of hair, that can weigh a lot, like a cottony coat. I still feed mine twice a day, although I am sure I could switch to once a day. You know how they are, act like they are starving all the time, so I give them a small amount in the am and pm. Sounds like you aren't overfeeding though. Lastly, at the vet checkup I asked mine about weight, I thought Chloe was a little heavy but the vet thought it was perfect for her bone structure. Lots of people on this site have larger yorkies than mine. They might have more imput about weight, there are just a lot of considerations. |

Maybe check out the ingredients and fat content on all the light food and maybe make a switch. I'm not sure sorry, I don't have that problem. Mollie is only about 5 - 5 1/2 lbs. I keep food down all the time she never overeats. Thank goodness. Does she have any favorite toys that she likes to play with. Mollie is very active and loves to play ball. So that helps with her as well. Maybe you could find something that your little one likes to play. |
You should look into a holistic food as well such as Solid Gold. Science Diet really is not good for dogs. As like most grocery store foods, it also has those things that dogs should NOT be eating in them. I also "cook" my dogs their own organic raw diet. If you give your baby treats a lot, lay off those. I work in a boutique and bakery so I'm ALWAYS bringing home new clothes and leases and *gulp* gourmet treats for the dogs and my father just overloads my Bounce with them. Since I've gotten him to cut back, Bounce is finally back at his 4lb weight. And remember it won't just happen overnight. Good luck! |
